I AM GOING TO BE A BIG SISTER!!!
Woohooooo!

I was just 5 years old when my parents took me on an amazing vacation to Bora Bora. We were eating lunch on the beach when something very exciting happened! My mom gave me a present!
I was very curious and thought, "Why would my mom give me a present when it was not a special occasion?"

I opened it and inside was a t-shirt with rose gold writing. I read the shirt aloud. It said, 'Big Sister.'
I was confused and asked, “Am I going to be a big sister?” When my dad said, “Yes!” I was very surprised that I was going to have a younger sibling!

Big
sister!

After returning home, we found out very important information. My brother or sister was due to be born in July, which is the same month as my dad’s birthday! I wondered, "What would we name the baby?"

Santana? Cataleya? Chucky? Alina? Jaida? Nikayle?

On January 19th, (two days before my birthday) my mom went to the hospital. I was sad but also happy at the same time. I was sad because my mom would need to stay in the hospital until my brother or sister was born. I was happy because I would soon be a big sister!
Also, my grandma got to sleep over since my dad left to go visit my mom. We stayed up late and played games like, “I’ll give you $5 if you fall asleep before me!”

The next day was my 6th birthday party! It was an exciting POOL PARTY at an indoor water park. I was upset because my mom could not come since she was still in the hospital, but my family and friends distracted me from being sad. I had a great birthday party!

Happy Birthday, Maliya!

On January 23rd, I went to the hospital to visit
my mom. I was so happy to see her again! Then we found out some news…my sibling was going
to be born in a couple of hours! That's 6 months early! I was so excited, I felt like screaming! But then I heard the bad news that I couldn’t stay at the hospital with my family. My grandma was going to come and take me home...again.

The next morning, my sister was out of my mom’s tummy! My mom and dad called me with the biggest surprise. They asked me to think of a good name for a baby girl. I wondered why they were asking me to pick a name and not picking it out themselves.

I thought of a few names and I remembered a movie I watched with a mermaid named, Isla!
I shared it with my parents and they loved it!
The name Isla means island, surrounded by water. I am very thankful that I got to choose my sister’s name, Isla.

How about Isla?!
