The Korean War was fought between
South Korea and communist North
Korea. It was the first major conflict
of the Cold War as the Soviet Union
supported North Korea and the United
States supported South Korea. The war
ended with little resolution. The
countries are still divided today. North
Korea is still ruled by a communist
regime.

1950, when forces of the communist
Democratic People's Republic of Korea
(North Korea) invaded the Republic of
Korea (South Korea). The North
Koreans, with training and support from
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
(U.S.S.R.), quickly captured Seoul, the
South Korean capital.

Korea was Kim Il-sung. North Korea's
chief commander was Choi Yong-kun.
The President of South Korea was
Syngman Rhee. The South Korean
Army was led by Chung II-kwon. The
United States Army and United Nations
forces were lead by General Douglas
MacArthur. The US President at the start
of the war was Harry Truman.

Union and the People's Republic of
China. Supporting South Korea was
the United States, Great Britain, and the
United Nations.The US got involved
due to the Truman Doctrine which
basically guaranteed the US supporting
countries fighting communism. Also it was to
would keep the Soviet Union from
spreading communism.

Truman ordered U.S. troops to the aid
of South Korea and convinced the
United Nations (UN) to send military
aid as well, in what was referred to in
diplomatic circles as a “police
action.”The UN troops, were under the
command of General Douglas
MacArthur.

When entering the Korean War the
United States strategy was to enter
South Korea and drive the North
Koreans back into North Korea. But
this didn't happen as planned.
Because of the attack being a
surprise, the United States and
South Korean forces were pushed
into the far southern corner of the
Korean Peninsula.

While fighting in the Korean War, The
United States strategy was to
blockade China's coast,bomb its
interior and release Chiang's
Nationalist forces to invade the
mainland China. This was the plan
that General MacArthur proposed but
it had fierce debate. Many people
didn't not think it was a well thought
out plan, they thought it was unsafe
and risky.

The war didn't end, only major hostilities
ended in '53. There was no peace treaty
signed, so the war was
not brought to a completion. What
was signed was an armistice, essentially
a cease-fire agreement that left both
sides without any actual closure. We
take this armistice for granted as a
peace treaty because there is no
major hostilities today, if any.So the
war is technically still going on.

The United Nations established armistice
land between North and
South Korea so they would not be in
contact with each other. nobody won.
nobody gained territory.That's why
nothing changed. The fighting
stopped, and prisoners were
exchanged .

After the cease-fire agreement the
major hostility ended. And some
type of peace was made. The United
States strategy for leaving Korea,
was getting their weapons and
troops and just running and not
looking back.
