My boyfriend Oliver and I have been dating for 1 year, today. For our 1 year anniversary, he is surprising me with a special date at a surprise location. I can't wait. We get in the car and start our journey.
”Where are we going!” I ask.
“Thomas, you've been asking all day, and you haven't gotten an answer, you think you will now?”He replied
“Can you at least give me a better hint? Your last one was bad." I say
“ All you've told me is that we are going somewhere I have never been before, but you used to go all the time with your family when I was little.” he replies.
“ That's the same hint! You know that doesn't mean much to me, I haven't been to a lot of places.”
”That's because you spend all your time in that crusty stable of yours!”
”It's not crusty!” He rolls his eyes at me and we carry on with our
adventure. About an hour passes and I'm starting to get antsy.
”Are we almost there?” I complain.
“Yeah, I think. Man,” he says, “I wish this creeper would get off my tail."
I turn back and see an black car.
“What do you mean?”
”This guy has been following us for almost 20 minutes.” In about 5 minutes, we pull into a parking lot. “Oh, no. Why'd you bring me ice skating? I'm gonna fall and die here!” I say as I notice the rink, almost overflowing with other people. “I thought we’d have fun” Oliver replys”you worry too much Thomas, you'll be fine. Skating isn't that hard. And if you fall, I'll catch you.”
“You think I trust you enough to catch me? Bold.”
“Ha ha,” Oliver replies. We walk into a little shack next to the rink and get some skates. When we go back outside, there are benches along the
rink. We put our stuff down and sit on the benches to put our skates on. Oliver amazes me and gets his on in a flash and then continues to tie mine in a few minutes after. Oliver continues to amaze me as we get onto the rink. I'm clinging to the sides, and he's zipping around, skating backwards. He skated back to me and took my hand and started pulling me around the rink.
We spend about an hour “skating” around before we get off the ice. We both take our skates off (as in Oliver unties mine and his own skates) and then we go get some hot cider at a nearby stand. The ride home went by a lot quicker than the ride there. It was probably because we were blasting Britny and Beiber the whole time. Specifically young Beibs and not the newer stuff.
When we get home, It's already almost 8pm, so I look in the fridge to see what we can have for a quick and easy dinner. Suddenly, the phone
rings, and Oliver comes into the room to answer it.
“I got it,” I say, but Oliver is persistent about answering it himself. The person on the other side on the phone says,
“Hello, this is the Walgreens pharmacy, we're just reminding you to pick up your prescription in the next 5 days, thank you!”
“It was the pharmacy, they said that we need to pick up a prescription? I don't have one, do you?”
“Oh, yeah,” he replies, “I’m on Testosterone.” he mumbled the last part, so i could tell what he said.
“You're on what? I couldn’t understand what you said. You can trust me.”
“ I'm on testosterone. I'm trans.”
“Oh, wow that's bigger than I thought it was, why didn't you tell me. We've been dating for a year now. Do you not trust me? I thought we
were close. That's a really important detail of your life.
“ That's the thing, it is a really important detail of my life, and i didnt want you to react badly.”
“So you don't trust me.” I just walk away. I don't want this to get any worse. It was already almost to the point of yelling. I really don't care about the fact that he’s trans, like it doesn't bother me, I'm just upset he didn't tell me.
We both eat separate dinners and I go out to the stable. Since moving in together, the stable is further away, but I don't mind the drive when I get to be with my horses. I groom them and braid their tails and mains. I love just being with them, even though it's messy there. Once I get back home, I take a shower and get ready for bed. When I got into our room,
Oliver was already asleep.
I could barely fall asleep myself, i don't get how he could i guess i did
get back home pretty late though. While I'm away, I'm just thinking about our fight. I don't want Oliver to think that I'm going to break up with him or something just because he’s trans. I just hope that he thinks I'm bigger than that.
We wake up and we still haven't talked.we both eat breakfast silently, but at least together, so that's better. We get ready, and both head off to work. I work as a 3rd grade teacher and Oliver is a councilor at the same
school. Usually, we ride to work together, but today we drove separately.
We actually met at school. We would see each other in the teachers lounge and always talk. We instantly clicked and started dating soon after I started my job at the school. We just started the 2nd quarter of my 2nd year and so far, this year is better than last. Last year I didn't really know what I was doing, so it's night to have the hang of things this year.
After I show up at work, I realize that Oliver is not here. Usually, if we
take separate cars, he gets here before me. I walk into the school
thinking nothing of it. About 20 minutes after I begin my class, I get a call.
I pick up the phone and a female voice says,
“Hello, is this Mr Solace?”
“This is he?”
“Hi, we are calling from-”
“Sorry,” i interrupt,”can you give me a minute, i'm in the middle of teaching my class.'' I ask the teacher next door to watch my class for a moment and I head to the teachers lounge.
“Hello”
“Hi, yes, we are calling from Elliot Hospital's emergency unit. You were listed as Olivia Smith's emergency contact?” Olivia? I don't know an Olivia. Oh, That must be Oliver’s deadname.
“Yeah, I'm his boyfriend, did something happen?” Instantly, I get a rush
