It had been days since the kitchen had seen as
much as a pinto bean. That morning, hungry
Hansel declared lunchtime to Father's girlfriend,
Chelsea, who ignored him. Hours ago, Father had
hurriedly left for work asking Chelsea to get some
groceries. Hansel guessed that she didn't hear
him, since she hadn't budged. Finally, Chelsea
agreed saying, “Fine. I'll buy some food, but
you're staying at the park.”

So they lollygagged to the park, Hansel drawing with his chalk along
the way. Chelsea, infuriated by the pace, stole the chalk from Hansel.
Secretly, he kept a hunk in his pocket. They arrived, and Chelsea
promptly deserted the children for the grocery. Hours later, all the
chalk was gone, but Chelsea wasn't there. Gretel began crying. “She’s
never coming back, is she? I want to go? home, but we’ll get lost!”
Hansel remembered his trail of drawings. “Don’t worry, we can follow
the chalk home.” They left, following the scribbles, finding their way.
Father welcomed them home, but Chelsea scolded them for leaving.

The next day, the food Chelsea bought was gone. After a
similar morning to the day before, The children were left at the
park again. After many hours, Chelsea still wasn't there.
Ominous clouds threatened rain. Overcome with fear, they
began to follow the path home once more, but rain washed it
away.
