Abraham Lincoln

THE UNITED STATES

In 1861, Abraham Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States. He is best known for the Emancipation Proclamation (1863) which freed all slaves. Lincoln was indeed a great President!

Lincoln's Birth and Early Life

Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in a one-room log cabin in Hardin, Kentucky. He lived in Kentucky, Indiana, worked on a riverboat that sailed the Mississippi River, and finally settled down in New Salem, Illinois. 

Lincoln the lawyer 

Becoming a lawyer is very hard. People have to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and study for years before officially becoming a lawyer. However, Abraham Lincoln taught himself the law, and he passed the bar examination in 1836. He was very hard working and intelligent!
