February 15th is an important day in our family history.  My Nanny Joan told us the story of the Ocean Ranger. 

The Ocean Ranger was an oil ring.  It was drilling near Newfoundland. 

Our great Uncles Bob and Harold worked on the Ocean Ranger.   They are my Nan's brothers. 

Uncle Harold and Uncle Bob were working on the Ocean Ranger on February 15, 1982.   That day a winter storm was causing waves taller than our school.

The Ocean Ranger was so far from land.  

The storm was getting worst and they called for help. 

 The waves got stronger.   It hit the rig so hard, it broke a window in a control room.  Water got inside and ruined the equipment.  The rig became unstable and tipped over. 

There were 84 people on board and sadly nobody made it.
