This is a story about how three girls got transported into the world of Warriors! These girls have mixed reactions on this, though. This book, part 1, includes them meeting their first clan cat and traveling towards camp.
The three girls, Laynie, Cheyenne, and Ivy sat
quietly on the bench in the foyer of the mall. They watched as the custodian trudged past, grumbling as he stopped to pick up scraps of product packaging. The girls exchanged blank glances and shrugged. Ivy chomped her gum awkwardly. Cheyenne shot her an annoyed glance, “Seriously?” Ivy gave her a snarky grin. Laynie huffed as she reached down in her bag to get a book from the library. Ivy rolled her eyes as she saw the cover. “Warriors? Hah! That’s nothing compared to Harry Potter.”
Laynie scoffed, offended and angry. After Laynie flipped to the prologue, Cheyenne leaned over her shoulder curiously. “Which one is that?” She asked innocently. Ivy imitated a barfing noise. Cheyenne cut her off as she slapped her arm. Ivy looked offended. After Laynie explained to Cheyenne what part of the series the book was in, Cheyenne grabbed her book from the library. On the cover it showed one of the few books from The Boxcar Children that Cheyenne hadn’t read. Of course, Ivy chortled to herself.
Apparently all books that weren’t read by her were for babies. Laynie smiled and asked Cheyenne what mystery it was about. Afterwards, they went back to silence. Laynie opened her book and began to read the prologue. (Reader, this isn’t actually in a Warriors book.) It read, “A pretty, speckled, gray she-cat padded through the dense brush and leaped over a babbling stream. She stopped in an opening and quickly groomed herself. When she was satisfied with her fur, she sat down and let out a soft yowl.
Eight other cats appeared from the sides of the opening, five toms and three she-cats each of astounding beauty. They nodded to each other cooly. ‘Cats of Shellclan!’ The gray cat announced. ‘The time has come for us to become one, true clan! Those who are not willing to join us, will perish. Starclan thought they could keep us away, but we will start plucking these clans apart, piece by piece!’ The cats rose the their hind paws and bounded about, yowling with glee. ‘Shellclan, Shellclan, Shellclan!’ they chanted.”
Laynie’s eyes widened. When she finished she slapped the book closed. “OH MY GOSH!” Ivy and Cheyenne shot a worried glance at each other. “Uh, Laynie?” Laynie opened the book again to the first chapter, needing to know what happened next. But before she could read anything, the page burst into light! She dropped it on the ground in fear. The three girls exchanged worried glances. A humming grew increasingly louder from the inside of the book. The girls got the growing feeling they were being pulled toward it.
They yelped and grunted as they were pulled into the page. They spun down into the glowing light and disappeared. Then, they were shot out into an outer space looking place. They floated around, spinning, tumbling, and wheeeing. Ivy was curled up, her hands wrapped her legs. Suddenly, they started falling and fell through a portal-like whole. “AAAAAAAHH!” They screamed. “Just so you know, you’re my best friend!” Laynie yelled to Cheyenne. “HEY!” Ivy exclaimed. “You too!” Laynie added. Ivy smiled briefly and then went back to screaming.
