In a small town in Arizona lived a little girl 

named Julie. Julie lived with her adoptive mom 

and dad. 

They loved her very much. After all, they wanted 

to be parents for so long and they finally had a 

beautiful daughter to care for and love. 

Her mom would always tell her, "you 

are so perfect my little Julie." And she 

sure was!

When Julie was five-years-old she went to school for 

the first time. Although she had so much fun, she had a 

hard time learning to read. Other kids don't seem to be 

having so much trouble, she thought. 

So she had to take a test to see why she was 

struggling. 

A Tester showed her pictures of different items and 

when she showed her one of the pictures Julie 

said, "I know what that is, it is a toallita."

The Tester responded, "no, I don't know what you 

are talking about."

Toallita is a Spanish word that Julie had learned at 

home. The Tester wanted her to use the English 

word, but even though Julie tried and tried she 

couldn't think of another word for the toallita.
