Eddie walked home in the rain and the snow.

Though no matter where he started, he didn't know where to go.

The land was filled with houses and roads,

And he didn't know where the Trufulla tree grows.

He trudged through his house, with his head held low.

His mother called to him "You were out in the snow? I was worried and wondering where you had gone, I did not know."

She saw his sad face and the seed in his hand,

She asked him why he was upset, she wanted to understand.

"It's a trufulla seed," Eddie said with a frown,

"But no matter where I look, there's no space in the ground."

"I need to plant it somewhere, the barbaloots need a home, but I can't find a place. No matter how far I roam."

His mother drew him closer, pulling him into a hug.

But then, all of a sudden on the roof, came a batranormous thud.

Both ran outside, looking up toward the sky

And over their heads came a whoosh as something flew by.

Its round orange body, bounced around the yard,

But landed with a flat sound, like a big chunk of lard.

"I am the Lorax, and I speak for the trees,

And right now, in your hand, is the last of its seeds. 

You must plant it soon, get it in the ground,

And with all that you can, keep it safe and sound."

"You must help it grow, get it big and strong,

If you care for it just right, it's sure to live very long."

He led Eddie into the yard, in his mind he had one goal,

He showed him how to dig in the dirt and make a little hole.

"Here, right here, plant the seed here, 

keep it safe and help it grow so that barbaloots don't shed a tear."
