This book goes to my step-dad, Vincent, for being there for me in Taekwondo, and Toby, who has taught me a few moves.

Becoming a blackbelt in Taekwondo doesn’t just happen overnight. Martial arts isn’t all about fancy and sophisticated moves, either. A common phrase (originally quoted from Bruce Lee) in martial arts is, "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times."
What Taekwondo Is All About!

The first technique a student learns before receiving their white belt is the hammer fist. This technique is simple, but when applied at the right time can create significant damage.
The Hammer Fist

First, ball your hand into a fist. Make sure your thumb is curled into your palm, COVERING your other fingers
Tip: Do NOT tuck your thumb inside your hand, as it can cause injury.

STEP 1
Find your Kicking Stance. This stance is commonly used in martial arts and allows you to move around more easily. Here's how to do it:
STEP 2

Keep your legs shoulder-length apart with your dominant leg a few inches forward. You want to create a stance that allows for balance, so keep your stance wide enough to feel comfortable.
Slightly bend your legs (you should never lock your knees!)
Tip: you aren’t tight-rope walking! If I can push you over easily, your stance is not stable.
