Americans occupied Alcatraz Islands on the
"right of discovery. On the time of this event,
there were about 100 natives on the island, many
of which were from different tribes.

By 1970, people started to pay attention to what the natives
were doing to get their rights. Many even started to take
them seriously and respect their views. This was just the
beginning of "Red Power".

missile base in California. This, as well as other
occupations, were completely peaceful and festive.

Movement. This walk first began on February 11, 1978 on
Alcatraz Island and ended on July 15 in Washington D.C. The
walk was meant to symbolize the forced removal of the Native
Americans from their land.

after the Longest walk, natives still continued to fight
for their rights. And after almost 30 years there came
a silver lining. On September 13, 2007 the United
Nations adopted the "Declaration on the Rights of
Indigenous peoples".
This gave them the right to traditional land and
territories, practice language and culture, scared land, etc.
