Together, they visit an old antique shop where the owner tells them about a legend surrounding the black diamond. According to the legend, the diamond was once part of a larger collection of cursed jewels, which were hidden away by a group of witches. The diamond was the only one that was never found, until now.
Lily and Max also discover a newspaper article about a famous jeweler who had been in possession of the diamond and had lost his entire fortune shortly afterward. The article mentions that the diamond was sold at an auction and disappeared shortly thereafter. The two begin to suspect that the diamond may have been stolen and sold on the black market.
Their research leads them to a mysterious figure who is rumored to deal in stolen jewels. They decide to investigate further and plan to meet with him.
