What is a BOLT?
Being a BOLT is how we treat ourselves and each other by following five simple categories.
When you are caught being a BOLT by a staff member, they will fill out a BOLTS ticket for you to remember.
Bring your ticket to the office.
When your ticket is drawn, your name will be called during announcements.
Now lets dive into some places
where you may be caught being a BOLT outside of your classroom!
Welcome to Longfellow, students new and old,
Being a BOLT is a lot to uphold.
Our school is full of energy and fun you see,
When these five expectations are made key.
Being respectful is fundamental.
Own your learning is reaffirming.
Leading by example is easy to handle.
Trying your best is our only request.
Safe choices at last, let’s have a blast.
HALLWAY
Let’s begin with a walk down the hall,
With hands by our sides and not on the wall.
“Bubbles I spy” and quiet signs,
This is how kindergarteners walk in a line.
Obey your teacher as you walk with your class,
And make room for others as they walk past.
The hallways are busy and full of bustle,
Please use walking feet and do not hustle.
Our school has two floors that connect with stairs,
Walking them safely requires some care.
Stay to the right, and walk in a line,
Holding the rail, one step at a time.
When students listen and respect the hall,
We ensure health and safety for one and for all.
Making safe choices and being BOLTS leaders,
Will lead to safe children and happy teachers.
BATHROOM
We all use the bathroom throughout the day,
But it is not a place for fun and play.
Please don’t make a mess or scream and shout,
Just quietly walk in and quietly walk out.
Respecting others privacy is a safe choice,
By keeping to yourself with a zero-level voice.
Remember to flush and wash your hands,
So, we don’t share germs with other friends.

Don’t waste water by turning it on low,
Twenty seconds of scrubbing is how we roll.
Keep the water in the sink and not on the floor,
To prevent our friends from slipping on the floor.

One paper towel is all you need,
To prevent waste and save a tree.
Place the towel in the trash as you go,
And walk back to class like a BOLT.

KITCHEN
Who is hungry and ready to munch?
Come to the kitchen for a healthy lunch.
While standing in line, please be respectful,
Try your best to not be forgetful.
We start with knowing how to stand in line,
And using the quiet coyote sign.
Practice the BOLTS zero-level voice,
The lunch ladies appreciate this choice.
The milk cooler is our very first stop,
Remember to pick your milk from the top.
Quietly carry your milk in your hand,
And be respectful as you wait and stand.
Leading by example can be easy to do,
With manners such as please and thank you.
The kitchen is filled with action and noise,
Please order using your “presenter” voice.

As you follow your tray down the line,
Please pause to speak or point to the sign.
Keep track of your milk as you go,
To help the line smoothly flow.
Remember your sides before you leave,
This can be harder than you believe.
Please take the first thing that you touch,
Nobody wants your germs for lunch

Now it’s time to type in your number,
Miss Bonita can help you remember.
Carry your tray with both your hands,
This is an important command.

One last thing a teacher may mention,
“Please try hard to pay attention.”
Taking your time and doing your best,
Will get you to your seat without a mess.
LUNCHROOM
Lunchroom BOLTS are the best!
Ms. Lindsay really puts them to the test.
Let’s work hard to be successful.
By beginning with BEING RESPECTFUL.
All the lunch ladies give you choices,
Please be kind and use inside voices.
Take your tray and find your seat,
Keep to yourself, your hands, and your feet.
