Once upon a time, in a busy city, there lived a curious little boy named Oliver. One sunny day, Oliver's mom took him to a fascinating museum filled with ancient treasures from different parts of the world. As they entered, hand in hand, Oliver's eyes widened with wonder, eager to explore the treasures within.
Oliver let go of his mother’s hand and began to run through the museum. His mom called for him, “Oliver! Wait, stop!” Oliver remembered how his mother told him about always doing the right thing and listening to her. Oliver ignored the thoughts, leaving his mom to try and find him.
(Inciting Incident)
As Oliver went through the empty museum, his excitement got the better of him, and he accidentally knocked over a delicate vase. To his surprise, a beautiful light began sparkling from the broken pieces, and a spirit floated into the air. She was pale and said, “I am Sage.”
She called out to Oliver and whispered, “Something very bad is going to happen soon. You have to listen to our advice!" As Sage whispered, artifacts began shaking around Oliver. Sage went back into the vase shards.
(Rising Action)
Suddenly, an ancient tablet cracked open, and a tall man with white hair stepped forward, holding two stone tablets. His name was Moses. He explained to Oliver about how long ago, there was God. It was important that people had faith in God and followed the Ten Commandments which God wrote, then gave to Moses (Woodhead). The Ten Commandments are are a set of rules given to people to live a good and honest life (Editors of). Through living a good life, people could make up for the bad things they had done and go to a place called Heaven (Woodhead). Moses made sure that Oliver remembered two important commandments.
Moses whispered, "There are many different commandments, which you can follow to live an honorable life. The most important for you, young Oliver, are to follow your parents’ advice. They are trying to guide you. Always remember that it is wrong to take something that doesn't belong to you. Treat other people's belongings with respect."
Moses disappeared in a poof and the crack in the tablet was fixed.
An ancient scroll began to unroll and a clever spirit with a long black beard and kind eyes appeared before Oliver. His name was Confucius. He taught Oliver about his religion, Confucianism. The main value of Confucianism is to be a good person (Guo 20). One of the ways to be a good person was through a special value called Ren (Stefon). This means being caring and protective towards others, just like how adults are towards children (Richey).
Confucius told him, "Oliver, remember to be kind and caring to everyone you meet. Protecting others and doing what is right is an important virtue. You know how your mom always tries to protect you? It’s your job to protect others the same way." Oliver nodded, and promised to remember the old man’s words.
Confucius’ scroll curled back up, taking Confucius with it.
A beautifully decorated totem pole began to shake, and a wise Indigenous American shaman appeared before Oliver. As a shaman, shamanism is not just religious, but also an ideal (Meadows 1). But he still believed in the religion of his community. He spoke of how in the Indigenous American religions, holding your values close is very important (Jocks). It is key to the survival of religion and morals. He reminded Oliver that everything depends on each other and every action has consequences (Forbes 283).
