Once upon a time, there were two kingdoms in the land 

of Zureich named the Kingdom of Acid and the 

Kingdom of Base. These two kingdoms were separated 

by only a river. The part of the river that flowed into 

the Kingdom of Acid was red while the Kingdom of Base 

was violet. 

Each of the kingdoms were unique in what their lands 

produced and the treasures that they possessed. The 

Kingdom of Acid was renowned for their fruits and juices 

while the Kingdom of Base was known for cleaning products. 

The Kingdom of Acid produced hydronium from the river and 

the Kingdom of Base produced hydroxide in the river both 

through their Arrhenius ports.

They were also very friendly toward one another. The Kingdom 

of Acid gave the Kingdom of Base their most prized 

possession, the proton, through their most trustworthy knights 

named Sir Bronsted and Sir Lowry. The Kingdom of Base also 

gave the Kingdom of Acid their most prized possession, a pair 

of electrons, through their most loyal knight, Sir Lewis. 

One day, an evil sorceress placed a curse over the two 

kingdoms causing the Kingdom of Acid’s people to turn sour 

and the Kingdom of Base’s people to turn bitter. 

This led to a long feud between the two kingdoms and it 

seemed as if all hope was lost. 

However, a prophecy was written that stated that the two 

kingdoms would be freed of the curse if a prince from the 

Kingdom of Acid were to fall in love and marry a princess from 

the Kingdom of Base in the river that divided their two 

kingdoms. This would neutralize the spell and bring harmony 

throughout the land. 

There was only one way to tell if the spell was broken. The 

entire river would turn green as indicated from the pH as 

opposed to the former red and violet. 

Many centuries passed with no luck until one day, Prince 

Henry Clyde or Prince HCl for short fell deeply in love with 

Princess Natalie Olivia Hall, or Princess NaOH, from the 

Kingdom of Base.

 Hope was restored throughout the kingdoms and soon the 

two were married in the river that divided them.
