One day while at school Aidan heard about 

Ramadan and was unsure of what it was.

Aidan knew his Grandpa Akeem was a prayer 

leader at his mosque. So Aidan decided to ask  

his Grandpa if he knew what Ramadan was. 

"Grandpa Akeem what is Ramadan?" Asked Aidan. 

"Ramadan is a month on the Islamic calendar. It is 

also one of the five pillars of Islam , which is what 

all of our beliefs are based upon. Now, Ramadan is 

the forth pillar and its called, Swam which means 

fasting. During this month we partake in many 

activities. "

"What do we do during Ramadan?" questioned 

Aidan. 

"Well, we fast from sun rise till sunset. We also 

have to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and 

other forbidden activities. 

"Who takes part in it Granada Akeem?"

"Hmm... Good question.   You have to be Muslim 

and when your are around the age 13 or older you 

have to participate in Ramadan. But if you are sick, 

elderly or pregnant you can be excused from 

Ramadan.

"Ramadan takes place during the month or 

Ramadan during the Islamic calendar. 

It is 28-29 days and during this time we look to 

become better people and change in the way of 

Allah and Muhammad his messenger." Said 

Grandpa Akeem.
