Tectonic Plates are pieces of 

Earth's rocky crust that rests and 

moves on the semi-liquid mantle.

Pangaea is when all the Earth's 

continents were once upon a time 

connected together.

The Theory of Tectonic Plates 

states that Earth's continents 

were once joined all together, 

but broke apart, because the 

Earth's tectonic plates shifted.

Continental Drift states that 

Earth's continents were once 

joined in a large land mass, known 

as Pangaea, and ended up 

breaking apart from one another 

to form our present day 

continents.

In 1912 a german scientist, 

named Wegener, proposed two 

ideas known as the Theory of 

Continental Drift and the Theory 

of Tectonic Plates.

The Crust is the 

outer layer of 

the Earth.

The Lithosphere is the 

outer most layer of the 

Earth's surface.

It includes the crust and 

rigid part of the upper 

mantle.

The Asthenosphere is the layer 

in the upper part of Earth's 

mantle that's made of material 

that can be reshaped and 

deformed; on which continents 

move.

The Mantle is the part of Earth 

between the crust and outer core.

They say the Mantle is 

about 1800 miles thick!

The Outer Core is the layer 

inside Earth that is between the 

mantle and inner core.

It is made up of liquid.

The Inner Core is the 

inner most layer of the 

Earth.

It is made up of solid 

iron.

Plasticity is the ability 

for a solid to flow or 

move like a liquid.

Plasticity occurs in the 

mantle.

A Transform Boundary is a 

boundary that is located 

between two lithosphere plates 

when the plates are sliding past 

each other.
