Once upon a time, far far away, a
girl named Bisan attended a small
religion class taught by an
incredible teacher, her name was
Mrs. Oseivhi!

As Bisan learned all the
wonderful things throughout the
semester, she began to connect
and reflect on her own life and
most importantly, make an
effort to change for the better.

Chapter 1
Bisan moved from Lebanon to Canada
when she was 9 years old. It was a new
and an exciting journey for her and her
family however, her parents seemed
very worried and Bisan never
understood why.

Challenge
of
Secularism

Throughout Unit 1 on Challenge of Secularism,
Bisan was able to connect and reason to why
her parents were worried about bringing her to
Canada.
It was due to the rise of secularism and fear of
losing their values and religion.
Coming from a country where the majority of
society possesses a theocentric belief, it was
challenging for Bisan and her family to move
to canada where due to secularism, religion
was less prevalent in people's lives.

Bisan's parents
being practicing
Muslims believe
religion should be
a part of your
identity and
should not be
treated as an
interest and kept
private like in
secular societies.

What struck Bisan as a critical was that the rise of
secularism has not only affected church and
mosque attendees but terribly enough the whole
province of Quebec. Banning any visible religious
symbols her mom was directly affected being
someone who wears the hijab.

Due to this unit, Bisan was clearly able to
understand why her parents were really
worried about moving to Canada.
However, Bisan appreciated that her parents
had put her in a catholic school where she
was surrounded by faithful individuals who
constantly reminded her of God's presence.

Chapter 2
As Bisan entered her
teenage years, it
became difficult for
her to make choices.
Since she was young
and easily influenced,
what her parents told
her was right did not
always seem
fulfilling.

Listen to me!

After Bisan studied unit two on Moral Decision
making, she was able to connect to her life
and understand why has it become so difficult
to make decisions.

Moral
Decision
Making

Due to moral pluralism in society, where there
are many sets of moral principals competing
with one another, making a moral decision
becomes difficult for everyone.

However, through this unit
Bisan learned a few
techniques in making
positive moral decisions. One
being the S.T.O.P model.
Before rushing to make a
decision, Bisan learned she
must first search and
analyze the situation, think
of alternatives, consult with
others and most importantly
pray for God's guidance and
support.

Bisan also learned
Kholberg's Stages of
Development, where
she was taught to
avoid making decisions
that are self-centered
such as; avoiding
punishment, seeking
reward or pleasing
others to fit in.

Bisan was then
able to realize she
must not fall into
peer pressure and
is responsible for
having an
informed
conscience in order
to make good
moral decisions
that would benefit
her and society.

As Bisan studied unit three on Labor and Dignity
of work, she began to remember her parent's
experiences

Labor &
Dignity
of Work
