One day as I was swimming, I thought
about something and that was the
Olympics. I have wanted to go to the
Olympics ever since I was six. Two months
ago, I qualified for the Olympic Trials, and I
was so excited.

At the end of practice, I asked my
coach, Megan, if she thought I had a
chance of going to the Olympics. She
replied, "Yes, I think you do, but you
need to train very hard, Isabella."
I said, "Okay, thanks, Coach."

That night, I asked my parents if they
would let me go to the Olympics if I
qualified. They said "yes," but that they
could not go, because they were news
reporters and they were very busy. I
was disappointed they could not go,
but I was very happy that they would
let me go.

I got much stronger and faster over the next
few weeks, and before I knew it, the day had
come when Megan and I were going to the
Olympic Trials. We had to drive to Minnesota
to compete. We left Denver and drove
through the night and across the country to
Minnesota. Megan and I were talking about
the Olympic Trials the entire time.

The next day, I went to the pool with
Megan and put on my swimsuit and swim
cap. When it was time for my race, the
50M breaststroke, I stepped onto the
starting block, adjusted my goggles and
got into position. I heard someone yell,
"Go, Isabella!" That made me smile.

GO
ISABELLA!

The race starter yelled, "On your mark!
Get set! GO!" I dove in the water and
swam faster than ever. When I got to
the end of the pool, I turned around and
swam back. As I touched the wall , I
realized I had won! The other swimmers
were just finishing. Strangely, Olivia
Bandson (my rival) was doing the
butterfly instead of the breaststroke,
which meant she would be disqualified and
not be allowed to go to the Olympics. I had
won fair and earned my spot on the team.
