Amelia Earhart was a brave pilot and explorer. She became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic! But before we get to that lets see where she first started....

Amelia Earhart was born in Kansas on July 24th, 1897. She graduated high school from Hyde Park Academy High school and went on attend Columbian University from 1919-1920

Where it all started

When Amelia was 21 years old, she went to an air show. She was inspired by a stunt pilot and from then on she knew she wanted to fly!

In the 1920's aviation was new, but even so in 1923 Amelia got her pilots license and began her journey to be one of the best pilots to this day

Amelia's Journey

Even though at this time most pilots were men, Amelia set out to change this and created a group called the "ninety nines" an all female pilot group

In 1932, She became the first woman to fly by herself across the atlantic Ocean. She started in Canada and ended up all the way in Ireland!

She didn't stop there though, she shortly after went onto fly across the pacific oceans. starting in Hawaii and going to California!

Other than the distances she flew, she was also fast! Amelia went on to set at least 5 women's flying speed records

Even though she had made many accomplishments, Amelia wanted to do something bigger...

Amelia decided she wanted to fly 29,000 miles around the world!
