Henry and the Horse Adventure

Today Henry and his friends are going to the beach to ride horses. His dad is packing a bag to get ready to go. Henry's dad makes sure he packs snacks, drinks, extra clothes, and items that help Henry when his bodies five senses become too much to handle which means he becomes overstimulated. 

Henry has autism. Autism is a different way a persons brain works that affects the way they live. Sometimes when a person has autism it can cause them to become overwhelmed and overstimulated. It makes it hard for them to adjust to the environment around them. It can be hard for them to listen to loud noises, touch certain surfaces, smell things, look at light or colors, and taste some foods or drinks. 

Henry and his dad put the bag in the car and drive to pick up Henry's friends Simon and Mack. 

As Henry's dad pulls into Simons driveway Henry screeches with excitement. Simon opens the car door and sits down beside Henry. 

"Hi Henry! I am so excited to go on our adventure today!" exclaimed Simon. 

Henry shook his head up and down. 

"Buckle up boys. We have to go get Mack." reminded Henry's dad. 

When Henry's dad turns down Macks street Simon yells "Look theres Mack! She is outside ready!" Henry excitedly skreeches again. 

Henry's dad pulls beside Macks yard and she opens the other door beside Henry. She sits down with a thud. 

"I can't wait to see the horses! I hope I have a white horse! What kind of horse do you want Henry? What about you Simon? I am just so excited!" quickly shouted Mack. 

"Hi Mack. I don't care what color horse I have, I just want the biggest one!" replied Simon. 

Henry shrugged his shoulders and smiled at Mack. 

"Buckle up kids. It is time to go on our adventure!" laughed Henry's dad. 

When they got to the beach they took their shoes off and left them in the car. Henry's dad put his bag on his back and began walking down the beach. Henry, Simon and Mack followed Henry's dad towards a truck with a trailer. 

As they got closer to the truck they could hear extremely loud noises coming from somewhere. 

"What is that noise?" inquired Mack.

"It is the horses inside the trailer. They kick the sides because they are excited to get out and play." explained Henry's dad. 

Mack and Simon looked over at Henry who kept touching his ears and covering them. "Do you think Henry needs his headphones so his senses don't become overwhelmed?" questioned Simon.  

"That is a great idea Simon. Lets get them out until the horses are outside. Can you help me get them out of my bag?" asked Henry's Dad.

Simon and Mack unzipped the bag and pulled out the headphones. Simon walked over to Henry and handed them to him. Henry smiled at Simon and put the headphones on. They then walked over to Mack who was standing at the edge of the ocean. The waves were crashing into her ankles. 

"The water is so warm." announced Mack. Simon and Henry's dad joined her. Henry stood behind them watching the water.

"Henry would you like to put your feet in the water?" asked Henry's dad. 

Henry nods his head. He slowly walked over to where his friends and dad were standing. 

Henry watched as the waves slowly went back out. The waves then quickly came crashing back towards everyones feet and Henry skreeched with joy. They all stood there for a minute longer until the horse trainers walked up to them. 

"Hi everyone! Are we ready to meet the horses and take a ride?" enthusiastically asked the tall horse trainer. 

"Yes!" exclaimed Mack and Simon. 

Henry, Simon, Mack, and Henry's dad walked towards the trailer. "Look!" shouted Mack "The horses are out and they have a white one!" 

"Henry, the horses are not making loud noises anymore you can remove your headphones." encouraged Henry's dad. Henry handed the headphones to his dad and he put them away.
