To become a mechanical engineer you must complete a
lot of courses, here are the courses you need to pass.
Students must have a minimum of 382 units to complete
the B.S degree. To start core mechanical engineering
you must complete the following courses (21-120)
Differential and Integral Calculus, (21-122) Integration,
Differential Equations and Approximation, (33-106)
Physics I Engineering Students.
By the end of your sophomore year you should of
completed these 8 courses (21-259) Calculus in Three
Dimensions, (21-260) Differential Equations, (33-107)
Physics II Engineering Students, (09-105) Modern
Chemistry I, (15-110) Intro/Intermediate Programming,
(24-101) Intro to Mechanical Engineering, (24-200)
Machine Shop Practice, (24-202) Introduction to
Computer Aided Design. There are more but these are
just the basic courses.

Not only do you need classes to get into engineering
you must have certain skills, here are what I think to be
the most important skills.
Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify
the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions,
conclusions or approaches to problems.
Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other
people are saying, taking time to understand the points
being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not
interrupting at inappropriate times.
You must also have this important knowledge.
Design - Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and
principles involved in production of precision technical
plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including
their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
