CHAPTER ONE
Leonardo walked through Eastman High with his brothers: Raphael, Donatello, Michelangelo, and their human friend, April. They were looking at their class schedules.
"Aw man!" exclaimed Raph. "I got math first period."
"Be glad you're not me," Donnie said. "I got history."
"I got Home Ec!" chimed in Mikey.
They chatted about their classes, and then, suddenly...
They were at prom. Mikey was eating food, Raph and Donnie were chatting about movies, and Leo was dancing with April.
She looked up at him, said, "Best night ever!!" and kissed him.
"Leo! Leo! Leo!" the prom-goers chanted. "Leo! Leo! Leo!"
"...Leo! Leo!! Wake up! Leo!"
"Mmmf... ugh..," Leo muttered.
April drew away from him and disappeared. Oh no! Not April! "Come back!" he yelled, but prom was disappearing in a swirl of white mist.... and Leo fell out of bed.
"Leo! Come on, get up! We're gonna be late for school, you dummy! Hurry!" Michelangelo shouted, shaking his brother.
Leo opened his eyes. Mikey was bending over him, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, loose jeans, and a backpack slung over his shoulder.
"Ugh... I'm up, I'm up," grumbled Leo.
- - -
"Good-bye boys! Have a good day at school!" Splinter called. He handed them their lunch bags.
Scumbug chittered and waved at them.
"See ya later, bruhs!" Mondo Gecko shouted.
The Turtles climbed out of the sewer and walked down the sidewalk to their High School- Eastman High.
"I had a weird dream last night," said Raph. "I was riding a giant wolf, and then The Hulk came running up to me, and then we started to fight! But then a giant pizza monster flew in from the sky and ate Hulk."
"I think the pizza monster will be hearing from Hulk's lawyer in your next dream," joked Mikey.
Preferring to keep his dream to himself, Leo kept silent. He looked up- Eastman High was right in front of them!
"Hey, who's that?" Donnie said. Leo looked behind him. He didn't have time to react.
BAM!! Someone slammed into Mikey! He toppled over backwards, knocking into Raph.
"AAAH!!" the figure exclaimed. "Sorry, sorry, sorry!!!"
Leo's mouth fell open. Standing next to a Mikey on the floor, stood a girl. But...
But she had green skin and a shell.
She was wearing headphones, a pink mask, and a cute, punk shirt.
SHE WAS A TURTLE!!!
"Hey, you look like us!" Leo blurted.
She glanced up. "Oh, uh, um, yeah, I do! Um, I'm sorry for banging into you. I was listening to music. Uh, um, um, uh, uh.... sorry!" the turtle stuttered.
And she tottered off into the school.
The turtles were quiet. But then, Raph broke the silence.
"What just happened???"
"I don't know!" said Mikey from the ground. "She looked like us though!"
He hopped up and thought a moment. "She looked good too. She seemed cool!" he said, without thinking about the consequences.
Raphael grinned. "Somebody's got a cru-ush!!!" he taunted.
Mikey turned the color of a tomato. "No, I don't!" he exclaimed. "I just think that her, um, clothes were cool! Yeah!"
"I bet," Raph snickered. He patted his little brother's head.
They walked into the school. The hallways echoed with the laughter and chatter of teenagers.
The brothers got to their lockers. Leo opened his, and pulled out his notebook and folders.
"Boo!" somebody said from behind him.
Leo turned. April was standing behind him! His dream came flooding back into his head. Leo blushed.
"Sup," he said, playing it cool.
"Hey, Nardo," she said. "You'd better get your stuff fast. We're having a general assembly in the auditorium!"
"Thanks, April," said Raph.
"We shall be there!!" declared Mikey.
The bell started ringing. "Aaah! We gotta move!" April exclaimed. The turtles and their friend dashed into the auditorium.
Kids were already sitting in the seats. The turtles made their way up the row. April gave a wave and sat in a seat.
Leo sighed.
The turtles sat down in the back row.
"Ugh... ah! Argh.. sorry, sorry!" a familiar voice said.
The turtle from before came stumbling up the row, tripping over people's feet and slamming into chairs.
She collapsed into a seat next to Mikey.
Mikey cleared his throat.
She looked around. "Oh! Um, hi!" she said.
"Hi," Donnie said. "You're the girl from before! What's your name, anyways?"
She was silent. "Wait.. are you guys the.. the- the turtles?"
"Sup," said Mikey.
"Oh my gosh!! Hi!! Aah... sorry I bumped into you. I'm a really big fan of you guys!! You saved the city from Superfly! Ah.. sorry, I'm babbling. Well, my name is, um, well, it's Robinorella, but pleeeeaseee call me Robin! My name is Robin," the turtle stammered.
"Sup!" said Mikey again. "I'm Michelangelo, and that's-"
"Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello," Robin cut in. "I'm totally not watching you guys on the news all the time, hehe."
"So, are you new here?" questioned Leo.
"Yeah, it's my first day! My mom finally let me go to high school now that mutants are accepted," she responded. "I've been bumping into people all day- I'm pretty clumsy."
"No worries! I can be pretty clumsy, too," Mikey said.
"Shh! Shh! The assembly is starting!" Raph shushed.
The principal came onto the stage and walked behind her podium. She tapped her microphone, and said, "Hello, Eastman High! Our assembly is starting now, so please pay attention and be respectful."
She talked about regular announcements for awhile, like, the
janitors getting a pay raise and what the themes will be for the next Spirit Day. Leo was starting to get bored.
"And, finally," the principal said. "The last meeting of the student council has decided that, this Valentine's Day, we're going to have a Valentine's Dance!"
There was an uproar in the auditorium. "But we just had prom!!" someone in the front row booed.
The principal held up her hands. The shouting stopped.
"Yes, I know," she said, exasperated. "But we must respect the decision of the council. And prom was 6 months ago!" she added.
She talked about some more things about the dance, like how the invitations to invite someone are going to be called Candy Grams, and how the gym was gonna be set up.
"Ooh, no! I missed prom," sighed Robin. Her face fell. But then, it lit up again! "Oh, well! At least I'll still be able to go to the Valentine's Dance! If someone invites me, that is."
Mikey started to speak up, but Donnie pulled on him and whispered, "Bro, you just met her! Chill!!"
The assembly ended. Students filed out of the auditorium and headed to their classes.
Robin went into the math classroom, giving the turtles a short wave and a grin.
---
Later, school ended and the students ran out of the building, shouting and yelling and hollering. The turtles walked with Robin. After they said bye to April, they started walking home to the sewer.
Robin was chattering about herself. "....love pop music and doughnuts are my favorite food! Oh, and my mom is a mutant cat named Sashta. We live in a hidden alley."
"That's cool," Leo said. "How did you get mutated? Like, how did you mutate into a, um, turtle... girl..?"
Robin thought for a moment, then said, "Hmm.. Oh! Well, when I was a non-mutant baby turtle, I wandered into this alley. I.. um, I think I went poking around a dumpster and stepped in some glowing green goop-"
"Ooze," Donnie said. "We call it ooze. Best name!! We should trademark that," he added, as an afterthought.
"Ah! Yes, ooze! I like that!" said Robin. "Anyways, I stepped in some ooze, then I mutated into a baby mutant turtle, and Sashta found me and raised me!"
"Dope!" said Raph. "Basically the same thing that happened to us, except in a sewer, not an alley, and Splinter, not Sashta."
They chatted some more about themselves, and then they got to the sewer.
"Well... this is where we live," said Leo. "See you later!"
Robin smiled. "Yes!"
"See ya tomorrow at school," said Donnie.
"Yes, I will definitely be at school tomorrow," laughed Robin.
"It's a date!" Mikey said, without thinking.
There was a very awkward silence.
"Um, uh- no, I mean, uh, um-" he stammered.
"You're making it worse, bro!" hissed Raph.
"Just go in the sewer! Just go in the sewer!" urged Leo.
The turtles awkwardly climbed down into the sewer, leaving a
very confused Robin behind.
"You totally blew it back there, Mikey," Raph said as the walked through the damp hallway.
Mikey turned red again.
"Dad!! We're home!!" yelled Donnie.
"Hi boys!" Splinter responded. "I'm making dinner! Pizza noodle soup!"
---
After dinner, the turtles went into their rooms and the other mutants went into theirs.
"Hey guys," Mikey said, settling into his bed. "What did you think of Robin? I mean, she's another turtle! Crazy cool!"
"Eh... she was super clumsy," said Donnie. "But she seemed nice! She was cool."
"We all know what you think of her!" Raphael playfully teased.
Mikey burrowed under his blankets and disappeared from view. "GOODBYE, RAPH," he sang, covering his ears.
Leo sighed. "Goodnight, you guys!" he said. He turned on his side and closed his eyes.
A scene unfolded in his head. Leo had just won a VERY important contest. He was holding a huge golden trophy and everyone was cheering his name and clapping. April's face glowed with admiration as she started to move towards him.
Leo grinned into his pillow, very glad that his brothers couldn't see what he could.
Chapter Two
"....her name is Robin and we met her yesterday. She slammed into Mikey when she was listening to music," Leo said to Splinter.
The turtles were at breakfast, talking to the other mutants about Robin.
"Another turtle, huh?" said Splinter.
"That's crazy!" exclaimed Bebop.
"Where did that canister of ooze come from? I mean, it couldn't have just fallen from the sky!" stated Wingnut.
"No idea. But it's cool," Raph said.
The mutants ate in silence for awhile, stuffing their faces with leftover pizza noodle soup. Then, it was time to go to high school.
---
"Man! These teachers give out a lot of homework!" groaned Raph at the end of the day.
"I'll say," agreed Donnie.
"I'm pretty sure I've done about 100 pages of homework in the last 3 days!" exclaimed April.
"Well, luckily, it's Friday, so the weekend has officially started!" said Mikey. "As a plus, we don't have to do homework!"
They waved goodbye to April and climbed down into the sewer.
"Let's see what's on the news," Leo said, collapsing on the couch and pointing the remote at the TV.
"....next Lunar Eclipse is due to happen soon!" the news reporter said. "Weathermen and Astrologists can't be sure when quite yet, but be sure to pick up a pair of those sunglasses at your
local store. There has also been an increase in the population of snakes and lizards at the NYC Zoo. A new Desert Horned Lizard was introduced to the zoo 2 days ago. And now, a word from Bob Smith from Bob's Used Cars! Hi Bob-"
Mikey yanked the remote out of Leo's hands and changed the channel.
"...I wonder what I should do with this pie?" someone on the comedy show asked.
"Definitely don't throw it at me!" another person said.
"Good idea! Uno reverse card!" the first person said, and smashed the pie in the second person's face. The audience roared with laughter.
"This is booooriiingggg," groaned Raph. "I'm changing the channel to wrestling."
"No! Change it to the anime channel! Attack on Titan is playing right now!!" shouted Donnie.
"Change it to a baking show!!!" roared Leatherhead who had just came into the living room.
Raph made a grab for the remote, but Mikey danced out of the way.
Then, Donnie tackled Mikey. Leatherhead jumped over the couch, banged into Raph, fell down, and squished Donnie. Michelangelo was at the bottom of the pile.
"I can't breath!!" he exclaimed.
Raph fell over backwards into a little table. It flipped over, spilling a plate of crackers and cheese onto the floor. Leatherhead rolled over them, squishing them into the floor.
Just then, Splinter came into the room. "Hi boys! Do you want
pizza? Its-"
The rat stopped, staring at the shenanigan on the floor.
Crackers and cheese were spilled everywhere. Leo had jumped onto the back of the couch to avoid Leatherhead's tail. The heap of mutants were fighting on the floor. Occasionally, someone rolled over the volume controls of the remote, turning the sound way up. So now, a guy on the weather channel was screaming his head off about how it's going to be cloudy tomorrow. It didn't look like the poor remote was going to emerge alive from this mess!
Splinter blinked, recovered from his initial shock, and scurried over to the TV. He pressed the, "Off," button. The weatherman stopped screaming.
"Um, pizza is on the table," Splinter said weakly.
"Thanks dad, I'm coming!" said Mikey and Raph at the same time. They got up and walked to the kitchen as if nothing strange had happened at all. Leo stifled a laugh.
---
Later in the evening, the turtles went up onto a roof to play Frisbee.
Raph threw the Frisbee to Donnie, who threw it to Leo, who threw it to Mikey, who threw it off the roof.
"YOWCH!!" exclaimed someone from below.
"This kinda reminds me of how we met April," Raph said, running to the side of the roof with his brothers.
"For real," agreed Donnie.
Leo looked over the side of the rood and saw Robin rubbing the side of her head. "Ouch!" she said. "Who threw that?!"
She looked up and saw the turtles leaning over the side of the roof.
"Sorry!!" called Mikey.
"Oh, it's you guys," Robin laughed. "Um, mind if I come up..?"
A minute later, Robin was sitting up on the roof with the turtles.
"I can see you guys like Frisbee," she said.
"Just be glad we weren't playing with ninja stars," Leo said. "If you weren't wearing a helmet... yikes!"
"That's how we met our human friend April," Donnie said. "We threw a ninja star at her helmet by accident and she got mad and started yelling at us, and then this guy stole her scooter and we helped her get it back."
"And then one thing led to another, and now she's Leo's girlfriend!" grinned Raph.
"Hmf," Leo retorted, giving Raph a Look.
"Huh!" Robin said. "Well, I hope I can meet her one day! Do you know if she likes doughnuts? Also, I don't have a boyfriend, yet."
Mikey seemed to be having a silent battle in his head. After a second, he settled on, "I don't know if April likes doughnuts, but I do!"
"Cool!" Robin grinned.
"Ooh, I know!" said Donnie. "We should do that compatibility test thingy for friends. You know, say your favorite food or video game, and see what you have in common!"
"Yes! I love doing those things! Well, I mostly only do them with Sashta," Robin said.
"Ok, what's your favorite movie?" Mikey asked, smiling.
"Mine is The School for Good and Evil," Robin said. "I love it so much!... Hm...what's your favorite show?"
"It's hard to choose just one!" exclaimed Michelangelo.
"True! But if I had to pick one, I guess it would be the Beetlejuice cartoon," answered Robin.
"Oh, yes!! I love that one! It's funny. Hm... if it's funny, I like it!" responded Mikey.
Leo's attention was drawn away from the conversation. He looked towards the NYC Zoo. He could hear a lot of hissing, and he thought he heard someone yelling....
"I"m gonna go get some pizza!" said Raph. Leo snapped back into reality.
Raph headed off the roof and into the sewers. A minute later, he came back with some pizza boxes and some bags of Doritos.
"Mine!!" Donnie exclaimed. He lunged for the Doritos.
Raph put the pizza boxes down and opened them.
A few seconds later, everyone had grabbed a plate and some pizza.
Robin was eating her pizza, when Raph tripped and slammed into her.
Her pizza flew over the side of the roof.
"Hey!" Robin exclaimed angrily. "What did you do that for?!"
Just then, flames exploded out of her bag. Robin's eyes widened. "Shoot!" she exclaimed. "Shoot shoot shoot!!"
And she pulled two flaming daggers with a pink hilt from her burnt bag.
Mikey yelped and fell over backwards. Pizza splattered all over his face.
"Sorry!" exclaimed Robin. She blew on the daggers, and the flames went out.
"Sorry," she said. "It's my weapon. They're enchanted daggers that are telepathically connected to me. Whenever I get angry, they light on fire! Very useful for a battle, haha."
"WHOAAAHH!" Raph exclaimed. "That's so dope!!"
"It seems dangerous!" said Leo.
"That's the point," laughed Robin. "I guess I'm gonna have to go find a new bag now. And anyways, I gotta get back to the alley. It's 7:30, and Sashta doesn't allow me to be out past 8. She's worried I'll get hit by a car! Can I come over to your sewer tomorrow?"
"Oh! Um, sure..?" Leo said, taken off guard.
"Anytime!" chimed in Mikey.
"Great!" Robin said happily. "See you guys tomorrow!"
And she jumped, very ninja-like, off the roof.
"I think we should get back to the sewer," Donnie said, yawning. "I'm tired."
"Yes, let's go," Leo said. "But let's pick up those pizza boxes first!"
The brothers started cleaning up the food. As Mikey picked up a plate, Leo noticed the expression on his face.
It was the expression of someone who had just seen something so radical, they were lost for words!
Chapter Three
Leo paced in the hallway. He was nervous. Robin was coming over today! A lot of things could go wrong. What if she didn't like the sewer? What if Splinter got mad at the turtles in front of her? What if Mikey spilled pizza on his front like he used to do when he was little? What if Mondo Gecko started skateboarding in the kitchen and he broke something? What if-
Someone interrupted his train of thought. Leo looked up. There stood Mikey. He wasn't wearing anything! A nice dress suit dangled from his left hand. On his right, a orange shirt that said, "FUNNY" on it in yellow superhero letters.
"Leo! Help!" wailed Mikey. "Robin's almost here and I don't know what to wear!!"
"Mikey! Calm the heck down!" exclaimed Leo. "Just put on a
shirt! It's not like this is gonna define your life, you know. It's literally just a friend coming over for an hour. Just put a shirt on!"
"I'll wear this shirt," blubbered Mikey. "Dress suits are itchy."
He stumbled back into the turtles' room.
Leo sighed and continued his pacing.
A minute later, he heard the sewer cover shifting! He heard Splinter's voice... and he heard Robin's voice too!
Leo stumbled out of the hallway. He peeked into the turtles' room. Mikey was still in there... and he still wasn't wearing a shirt!
"I'm not dressed yet! This shirt is too small! Robin's here and I'm not dressed! HELP!!" Mikey yelled.
Suddenly, Robin walked into the hallway. "Hi Leo!" she said. "Hi Mike- OH!"
She was staring at the shirtless Mikey. Robin covered her eyes and quickly backed out of the hall.
Leo ran into the room, grabbed a neon green shirt, and thrust it over his brother's head. Then he pushed Mikey into the living room.
Robin was sitting on the couch, next to Mondo and Donnie. She peeked at Leo and Mikey, saw that they were both wearing shirts, and smiled.
"Hi! Hi!" she said. "I love your sewer!"
"Thanks," grinned Leo.
"So, um... what do ya wanna do?" Mikey asked.
"Oh! Um.... you decide," Robin said. "It's your sewer after all."
"I wanna go skateboarding!" exclaimed Mondo.
"I wanna watch One Piece!" Donnie shouted.
"I wanna let Robin know that Mikey likes her," said Raph, just coming into the room. He was holding a bottle of soda.
There was a suspenseful silence.
'Really?" Robin said. She turned to the frozen Mikey. "You, um, you like me?"
"Um!" squeaked Mikey. "Uh, um, um, um, uh, uh, um-"
Realizing how bad the situation would turn out for Michelangelo, Leo dived for the radio.
"MUSIC," he bellowed. Leo turned it on and cranked the volume.
Heads Will Roll by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs blared out of the speakers.
"You actually... like me??!" shouted Robin over the music.
"Glitter on the west streets!" sang Leo desperately.
"He does!!" exclaimed Raph, grinning.
"SILVER OVER EVERYTHING!!" sang Leo louder. His heart was pounding, and he was so nervous, for Mikey's sake.
Rocksteady came in and turned the volume way down. "Too loud," he grunted. "Me and Bebop are trying to play Uno."
Mikey started to run for his life. Tripping over his feet, he fled to the sanctuary of his bedroom.
"Does he actually like me?" Robin asked Raph.
"He totally does," Raph said again.
"Oh gosh," giggled Robin. "He barely even knows me, though."
"I'm gonna go check on him," mumbled Leo. He walked to the room and opened the door.
Mikey was laying facedown on his pillow. When Leo came in, Mikey looked up. His eyes were wet.
"Leo," he sniffed. "I'm so embarrassed."
"It's alright bro," Leo said. He sat down next to his brother. "Just ignore Raph. He's just trying to get to you. Brothers, um, well, they do that sometimes."
"I can't go back out there now," Mikey moaned, falling onto his pillow again.
"Well... you know what I recommend?" Leo asked. "Just... improvise!"
Leo knew that Mikey was a master at improvising, so he knew this would work.
Sure enough, Mikey sat up, wiped his eyes, hiccuped, and said, "You're right. I'm being dumb." Then, he walked out of the room. Leo followed.
"Heyyyy," said Mikey as he came into the living room. "Knock knock!"
"Um, you alright, bro?" Donnie asked, concerned.
"I said, knock knock!" Mikey repeated.
"Uh, who's there?" said Robin.
"Moo."
"Moo who?"
"Well, make up your mind. Are you a cow or an owl?" finished Mikey.
Robin laughed. "Hah! That's funny."
"I want some hot dogs and some pizza!" Mondo said, his stomach rumbling.
---
30 minutes later, the mutants were eating pizza, dancing to music, and talking about movies.
Michelangelo pulled some of his best moves next to the radio.
He was grinning ear to ear!
Leo smiled to himself. He had made his little brother happy, and the incident was forgotten.
I'm a good leader!!! he thought.
Chapter Four
"Look at the size of that snake!" Donnie said.
"Those boa constrictors are pretty cool," Raph agreed.
"Have you seen how pretty the green anacondas are?" sighed Robin.
The turtles (including Splinter) were visiting the zoo. So far, they had seen the foxes, bears, seals, meerkats, and snakes.
"I want to see the lizards now," said Leo.
So they trooped through a crowd of people to get to the lizard section.
But, something was very strange.
The section was closed off.
Guards called out from behind yellow police lines. "Sorry folks! But the lizard exhibit is closed off... Someone broke in and stole
a giant iguana and a couple desert horned lizards. The terrariums are a mess!"
"Oh no!" Robin gasped. "That's not good!"
"I wonder who would do a thing like that?" Splinter frowned.
"Why would someone want to steal a bunch of lizards?" Donnie asked a guard.
The guard sighed. "I don't know. Maybe the thief just wanted a exotic pet. I can tell you this, though. They left behind a puddle of glowing green... stuff. Scientists scooped it up with caution into a bag and put it into a safe in a lab."
Leo and Raph exchanged a glance. Ooze, mouthed Raph. Leo nodded.
"Let's go, boys," Splinter said.
"Don't forget me!" piped up Robin.
"Yes, Robin as well!" said Splinter, smiling.
---
The turtles were hanging out in their room, having a discussion about the thief.
"Well, lets lay out the facts. They stole a couple of lizards and left behind some ooze," said Leo.
"And whoever did it is probably a scientist," Donnie said. Before the mutants left the zoo, Donnie had talked with the guard some more. The guard had said he didn't know much, but he did know that the culprit was most likely a scientist because you'd have to be a genius to get past the security at night.
"A scientist who steals lizards...." Robin said slowly. She was in deep thought.
Suddenly, she stood up. "Be right back!" Robin said, and she
zoomed out of the room.
"Um... is she ok?" questioned Raph.
A minute later, she came zooming back, holding a beat up newspaper.
"I swiped this from a dumpster a while ago," Robin said, putting it down on a table. "I didn't think it was that important, but I kept it, just in case."
The front headline read, "DR. ALEXANDAR SMITH MAKES SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH WITH REPTILE DNA"
"Dr. Alexandar Smith," Robin said, crossing her arms. "He could be a lead suspect."
Leo scanned the report. It was talking about how this guy experiments with reptiles and discovered a cure to the fever with lizard DNA. It was boring, but Leo figured Robin might be on to
something.
"But if this guy did steal the lizards," said Raph. "Why? What is he planning to do with them?"
"Probably experimenting on them or something," Donatello said, adjusting his glasses.
"But... why?" Mikey inquired, scooting closer to Robin. She blushed, half smiling.
"Well, we know that he left some ooze behind," Leo said. "He might be trying to create another mutant!"
The turtles exchanged a glance. After Superfly, they were ready for no more giant mutants attacking NYC and throwing cars at them, thank you very much.
Just then, Splinter poked his head into the room. "Boys!" he said. "Someone is here to meet you!"
Wondering who wanted to meet them, the turtles got up and walked into the kitchen.
A mutant cat was standing, uncertainly, next to Scumbug. She had a large gold earring in her left ear, a turquoise bandana around her neck, and a white bandage wrapped around her tawny brown tail. She had leather wrist cuffs and was wearing a simple diamond belt around her waist.
"Hello!" she said. "You must be the turtles! I'm Sashta, Robin's mom."
"Oh, hi! Yeah, Robin's told us about you!" Leo exclaimed.
"It's a pleasure to meet you!" Donnie greeted kindly.
Robin came into the room. "Oh, hi, mom!" she said, noticing Sashta.
The turtles (and Splinter and the other mutants) talked with
Sashta for a while longer, but then it was time for Robin and her to leave.
Before Robin and Sashta left, Raph decided to speak up. "Oh, by the way," he said casually. "Michelangelo likes Ro-"
Leo stomped on Raph's foot- hard.
"Mikey likes, uh, roll cakes," whimpered Raph, grabbing his foot.
Sashta gave Raph a puzzled look, but then smiled. "Oh! I like roll cakes too. Well, it was wonderful meeting you! It's so great that there are other mutants, and other mutant turtles! I hope I'll see you around!"
Splinter showed her to the door (sewer cover). Robin followed Sashta out. "Bye guys!" she called. "See you later! Keep the newspaper. Bye!!"
And then they left.
Raph turned to Mikey. "Wait.... do you like roll cakes?"
Chapter Five
6 days passed, and the turtles got to know Robin better and better. She came over to the sewer every day after school for hours on end!
When she came over today, Leo was ready, "Robin!! Robin!!!" he exclaimed. "Come here!! You will not believe this, I swear!"
He pulled her into the turtles' bedroom. A newspaper was laying face-up on the table. The front page screamed at them, "ANOTHER LIZARD HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM NYC ZOO"
"Not again!" Robin exclaimed. "That's 4 stolen lizards!"
"I think we should go investigate this!" Donnie said.
"Well, we're going to have to do a lot of research if we want to find out where Dr. Smith's lab is," said Mikey.
"Yup," sighed Raph unhappily.
A painful hour later, (and with a lot of help from Donatello,) they had pinpointed Dr. Smith's lab. It was on the side of a desolated street a little past the zoo.
"Yes!" cried Robin. "There it is! We can go figure out what's going on now!"
"Right now?!" Mikey questioned, looking alarmed.
"Yes, right now!" declared Robin. "I want to know why this guy is stealing the lizards! I don't want to watch, I want to do."
"Oh, um, wow, ok, um," Leo stammered. "Uh, I guess, um, we should, uh, get our weapons..?"
"Hey da-a-ad!" called Raph. "We're going to the zoo for a little bit!!"
He turned to Leo, who looked shocked. 'Well, it's not really a lie," he said to his brother. "We're just going a little past the zoo!"
"Oh, all right," sighed Leo. He knew he was defeated.
"Hah!!!" Robin triumphantly laughed.
---
20 minutes later, the turtles walked past the zoo and turned into Dr. Smith's neighborhood.
"Man," said Raph as an empty soda can tumbled past them. "This place doesn't look like anyone lives here."
"I guess this guy likes his privacy," said Mikey, twirling his nunchucks in his hands.
"Well, there the lab is!" said Robin brightly, pointing at a building. "How do we get in?"
Leo looked around the little house. It did not look like a lab at all, but if he looked at it sideways and squinted, it did kind of look a
little like a research facility.
He noticed a broken window in the side of it, and pointed it out to Robin.
Robin nodded. And, without a moment's hesitation (well, maybe a little from Mikey) they scrambled through the window and into the lab.
---
"This place is creepy," whispered Mikey as he looked under a table.
"It's not that scary. But yeah, I don't disagree with you," Donnie said, shuddering at a spider on the wall.
"I don't think he's home," Robin whispered. They had crept around most of the house. Dr. Smith had not been spotted.
Mikey cleared his throat. "Hey, um.... Robin?"
"Ya?" she said, peering into a cabinet.
"Uh, well, uh, so, the Valentine's Dance is coming up soon," he said. Mikey cleared his throat again. "Um, uh, um, um, uh.... you, uh,"
"Spit it out, Mikey," Raph said, tired of his brother's stuttering.
"Do you wanna go to the dance with me?" blurted Mikey.
Leo held back a gasp. Mikey had done it! He had actually invited Robin to go to the dance!
Robin blinked. She stared at the sweating Mikey. "Oh!" she said. "Oh! Um, sure!"
Mikey was quiet. Then, he smiled.
Robin moved closer to him. Mikey moved closer to her. Robin blushed.
"Really?" interrupted Raph. "Now's the time you choose to do
this?"
"Hey guys! I found something!" Donnie whispered, excited.
He was looking at a table. It had bottles of chemicals on it. Failed attempts at making ooze littered the bottom of a trash can. But 2 vials of bright green goo glowed on top of scattered blueprints. Ooze.
Leo moved the vials aside with caution. The blueprints had sketches of mutant lizards on them.
"What is this scientist planning to do with this ooze...?!" Donnie asked, his voice rising in panic.
Suddenly, the door banged open! Someone started walking into the room, muttering angrily.
Robin's eyes widened. "He's back! We gotta get out of here!"
she whispered frantically.
The turtles scrambled out of the window. Leo's heart was beating so fast!
The turtles sped for the sewer. A river of thoughts streamed through Leo's mind. What was Dr. Alexandar Smith planning to do with that ooze?
Leo sat in his desk at school. He was in his math period with Raphael and April. The teacher was talking about high-end algebra and, "Elements of x divided by 3.89 times 90.67.8," but Leo couldn't pay attention. It mostly sounded like the teacher was speaking gibberish.
Raph tapped on Leo's shoulder and handed him a note. "It's from April," he mouthed.
Leo opened the note. It said, "Yo, Leo! U wanna go w/ me to the v-day dance??"
Leo turned it over, scribbled, "Yes, please, obviously!!" and handed it to Raph who passed it back to April. She smiled, and nearly laughed when she read Leo's answer.
Later at lunchtime, Leo introduced April to Robin.
Chapter Six
"Hi!!" The excited Robin greeted. "Oh my gosh!! Hi! It's great to meet you! I'm Robin. Sorry if I seem a little overexcited.. It's just my personality! Haha."
"Hey!" greeted April. "I'm April. Are you friends with the guys, too?"
"Yes! I've known them for, um, I think... two weeks? Hah. Mikey invited me to go to the dance with him, so yeah!"
"He did?!" April asked in disbelief, spilling her chocolate milk all over her shirt.
"Uh," Mikey said. "Um, uh, yeah, I did."
"You guys make a cute couple!" Donnie playfully teased, punching Mikey's shoulder.
Mikey threw a carrot at Donnie's face.
---
Finally, the day ended and everyone headed home. Yay! Leo didn't have to listen to a teacher drone on and on about what E equals anymore!
"So, guys," said Robin as the turtles walked home. "You wanna head back to the house today?"
"No way!!" Leo exclaimed. "We barely got out of there in time yesterday!"
"Aw, come on!" Raph groaned. "We gotta figure out what's going on! Let's go!"
Leo shook his head. "No, it's too dangerous," he argued.
"Come on Leo!!" pleaded Donnie.
Leo stood his ground. "No way."
"I'll buy you a box of soft crust cheese pizza if you do it next week!" pleaded Robin desperately.
Leo tapped on his chin. "Hmmm...."
"You shouldn't have done that, Robin," whispered Mikey. "Leo loves soft crust cheese pizza. You're gonna waste your money on him!"
Chapter Seven
A week later, Leo was munching on a slice of soft crust cheese pizza on the way to Dr. Smith's laboratory.
"I can't believe you bought me into this!" Leo said with a mouthful of pizza. "Literally!"
Robin sighed and made her way to the broken window. She peeked inside, then withdrew. "He's not home! But we should still be quiet," she whispered. "Let's go!"
The turtles tumbled into the house. Robin walked over to the table. A new vial sat on it. It was labeled, " Lizard DNA"
"Oh my gosh! He is planning to create a lizard mutant!" cried Raph, forgetting to be quiet.
And then, someone came walking down a hallway into the room. It was Dr. Alexandar Smith. He had crazy grey hair, a white
lab coat, and white gloves. He was holding a desert horned lizard.
"Oops!" whimpered Robin. "I guess he was home!"
His eyes widened as he took in the turtles, frozen in place, too scared to move.
"More mutants," he rasped. "You guys stopped Superfly, did you not? You saved the city. And you broke into my home!"
"We're sorry!" Donnie choked out.
"We were just trying to figure out who stole the lizards from the zoo!" squeaked Robin. Michelangelo gripped her hand.
"Yes, that was me," Dr. Smith said. "I stole the lizards to experiment on them. To try to create another mutant. You see..." he continued. "Dr. Baxter Stockman was my cousin. But soldiers at T.C.R.I killed him. So I'm trying to create another mutant to
release into their lab. To get back at them. My revenge!!!"
"You're crazy man!" Raph stammered.
Smith set the lizard down on the table next to a vial of ooze. "People tell me that," he said. The scientist started walking towards the turtles. They backed up against the wall.
"What do you want from us?" whispered Robin in terror.
Smith stopped. He stared at Robin as if he had just seen her. "You guys... you guys got a sister now?" he croaked.
"I'm not- I'm not their sister!" Robin whimpered. "I'm just f-f-friends with th-t-them!"
"Hmm... you'll be very interesting to study in my laboratory!" Smith said, stretching his hands out towards Robin.
"Yo! Get away from her!" shouted Mikey. He pushed the mad scientist backwards.
"Yow!!" Smith cried as he toppled over backwards. He smashed into the table. The frightened desert horned lizard scampered off the table and out of the window.
The vials of ooze slammed into the bottle of lizard DNA. The vials cracked, the goop combined, and the lizard DNA ooze got all over Dr. Smith's skin!
"AAHHHH!!" he shrieked. The goop started smoking black.
"MAKE IT STOPPP!!" Smith screamed. His voice started rasping. "GET IT OFF ME!! GET IT OFF-- GRRRROWWLLL!!"
Black smoke exploded over his body. Debris flew all over the room; papers, soda cans, vials, trash. Mikey flung himself over Robin, shielding her from the trash. And that's when Robin realized that, she too, truly loved the turtle that loved her.
When the smoke cleared, Dr. Alexandar Smith was not
Dr. Alexandar Smith anymore.
A huge lizard monster was bent over on the floor. Red, twisty horns protruded out of his scaly dark green head. He had long black claws, and black smoke danced lazily over his silky black cloak.
The monster stood up. He opened his mouth, revealing 2 sets of pointy teeth, dripping with green saliva.
"Hah!" he growled. "Look at me! I'm some sort of lizard monster."
He advanced over to a wall. A mouse hid in the corner. When it saw him, the mouse squeaked and tried to scamper away.
The monster slowly reached out and touched the mouse. The poor mouse let out a high pitched squeak, and fell to the floor in pain, twitching. It was obviously poisoned.
"I got super poison powers!" the monster exclaimed. "Haha!
