Hi! My name is Dwayne, and today I will tell you the story of how I got fired from my dream job, but thanks to it, I found a job that I love doing even more
It was a regular Autumn day in Kystym on 29th September 1957. Birds were singing, leaves were falling. It was sunny and no clouds were present. Everything was normal, and I was getting ready for my job.

Here's a picture that my wife had taken of me having breakfast that day. It was a special moment for me because I scored a new record of number of pancakes eaten at breakfast (12 pancakes to be precise, 1 more than usual).

My job was very simple. I worked at the nuclear plant in Kystym. I had to check that the system which cooled the water used for the nuclear reactions was working well. If anything was off, I simply needed to report immediately that the system didn't work properly, possibly even specifing the reason.
The reason why the job was so easy and simple was because nothing ever happened. After a few years of doing the same job every single day, I even forgot most of the anomalies that I needed to check for (a guy explained them to me when I first got the job, but because no anomalies ever occured, I simply forgot them after a very long time).
Sadly one day, the system broke and the water became too hot. The nuclear fission process accelerated to dangerous levels, and nobody could figure out the reason.

Nobody except me! In fact, I recognized that the problem was a burned wire in the cooling system, which didn't allow the water to cool down. Checking for burned wires in the system was the only thing I remembered I had to do in case of anomalous speed of nuclear fission.

I then jumped straight into the water to confirm if it was too hot, so that the lever which stopped the nuclear fission could be pulled down.
But unfortunately, in the old nuclear plants, after the lever was pulled it took 20 seconds for the nuclear fission to fully stop. When I got out of the water it was already too late. Before the fission could stop completely, the nuclear plant exploded, releasing a lot of nuclear waste in the air around it.
