Lane and Ellie are best friends at GSU. They are both studying to be Science teachers to middle school students. Ellie has taken Dr. McCurdy's Science Methods course this semester, and Lane will take it next semester. She wants to ask Lane a few questions while they stroll on campus.
So Lane, What all did you learn in Dr. McCurdy's Method's course this semester?

Dr. McCurdy's class gave us all the information we needed to be successful science teachers. We covered how to be responsive, inclusive, and engaging science teachers. We performed hands-on activities and participated in engaging lessons. To me, the biggest takeaway this semester was 5E lessons.

I think that is awesome. I was hoping the class was going to have hands-on activities, and I really need some advice in making engaging lessons. What were the most meaningful readings?
Most definitely the reading about Henrietta Lacks. I loved that reading and how eye opening I was. It really made me think about how science may not always be approved by others. You know, science is a never ending learning experience, and we learn best from others. I really loved reading that story, and it was very easy to connect science and culture.

You will do so many activities that you could easily use one day in your own class. My favorite activity was the Problem Based Learning Activity. We chose a scenario and had to solve it. My partner and I created a Sustainable City. I know middle school students would love this, and it would go great with partner work.
