A long time ago, there were two chiefs, a brother and sister. They lived in Waimea and there were too many people.

So they decided to move to create a new home for their families. 

They made their new home by a big river called Nawilliwilli.

The brother built a village at the top of the river and the sister went to the bottom.

The villages had big trees that protected them from the winds and rocks that stopped the waves.                                                          

The brother and sister loved to compete with each other and liked to see who was better at many things.                                

They surfed waves to see who could catch the biggest one. Even though they loved competing with each other, they  ruled their people very well.                               

The brother and sister discovered there wasn't enough fish to feed their people.                         

The sister said that she could make a better pond

than her brother.  So they wanted to build a pond for each of them where they could keep fish until they were big enough to eat.
