We are living in a beautiful, fresh, green planet called Earth. But is it as “safe” as we often tell ourselve? Because from the past until now, nature has given us many wonderful gifts, but it has also given us some challenges that we did not expect to face with, such as “natural disaster”.
SO WHAT IS NATURAL DISASTER?
Natural Disaster is defined as a sudden and terrible event in nature that usually results in massive harmful impacts on the environment, animals, humans and causes many deaths. It can also be described as any calamitous occurrence generated by the effects of natural, is out of the control of humans. Some examples of natural events are tornado, earthquake, tsunami, flood, landslide, wildfire, typhoon, and many more.
TAKE VIETNAM AS AN EXAMPLE
Vietnam is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world. Because of our country’s geographic location, shape with a coastline stretching 3440 km, combined with diverse and complex topography. Vietnam suffers from many different types of natural hazard events. These are hydrometeorological such as floods, typhoons, droughts, and also geophysical like landslides. It is estimated that approximately 70% of the population who live in coastal areas and low-lying deltas in Vietnam are exposed to the risk of natural hazard disasters.
