On a trip to see Auntie Cat, Momma Cat and her two kittens Katie and Emmet got caught in a flash flood. 

They had been driving down the road on a rainy day when the storm got worse all at once

and hail began falling from the sky. 

The road turned into a river and their car drifted with the current; 

water was seeping through the floor and doors while it rushed around their car. 

Katie and Emmet can’t swim; 

they were scared.

Momma Cat was scared too.

But she got help from another driver, 

a friendly elephant.

He helped her carry her kittens through the rushing water to dry land.

Ever since that day months ago, 

Katie Kitten has not been feeling like herself.

Lately, Katie has been mad, and sad,

and scared, and she doesn’t know why. 

She doesn’t like car trips anymore; she is afraid that the rain will wash them away again.

She feels nervous when the sky gets dark and cloudy.

She keeps remembering the water seeping into their car, 

her paws wet and cold.

Sometimes, Katie has trouble falling asleep at bedtime,

and when she does sleep, she has bad dreams. 

In the bad dreams, she feels like she is being swept away in a big river, 

all alone. 

When she wakes up from her nightmares, 

she cries until she falls back asleep.

Katie is so unhappy.
