Chapter 20 Reindeer Games

In the Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, Junior signs up for basketball and in tryouts gets paired with rowdy who is a giant compared to Junior. Junior then ends up making a good impression on the coach and makes the varsity team as a freshman. 

For their first game, they play Wellpinit which is juniors old school. when they get inside, the audience chants "Arnold sucks", and everyone in the room turns their back on him except for Rowdy. When Junior finally gets to play, someone in the crowd throws a quarter at him and it cracks his head open. 

He is then forced to get off the court. Where he asks Eugene to stitch his head up for him and goes back on.   

Junior takes the ball and goes for the layup, but Rowdy elbows him right in the head and Junior falls unconscious. This shows that Rowdy no longer cares about juniors head injuries. 

Chapter 21 And a Partridge in a pear tree

Christmas rolls around the corner and Juniors family has barley any money. So his dad takes their last bit of money they had and goes on a drinking binge. 

He comes back after a week and tells Junior that he has something for him. He then reaches into his boot and pulls out a $5.00 bill.

Which would be really hard to keep and fight the urges to use it for more liquor. Even though he's an addict, this just shows Junior how much his dad loves Junior. 

Chapter 22 Red versus White 

Junior comes to realization that even though his parents struggle, they're actually really good parents. He has parents that care about him, and love him, and support and believe in him.
