One of Nathan's favorite things to do was
play with his toy race cars. So, one day he
asked his parents for a new one...

His parents suggested he earn the money for the car by running a
lemonade stand. With some uncertainty, but mostly excitement,
Nathan agreed.

Nathan's parents gave him some money to start his lemonade
business.
"Now son," his father began, "To run a business, you need to know
how to count money. So how about you practice. How much cash did
we give you?"
Nathan thought for a moment. "I have one ten dollar, one five dollar,
and one...two...three...four one dollars!"
"How much do you have all together?"
"I have...nineteen dollars! That's a lot of money!" Nathan exclaimed.

"Yes you do!" His father agreed. "Let's count the change."
"I have two quarters, two dimes, five nickels, and five pennies."
"Good! How much is that all together?" His father asked Nathan.
"It is one dollar!" Replied Nathan proudly.
"You are so smart Nathan. Now if you add the nineteen dollar bills
and the one dollar of change, how much money do you have?" Asked
his mother.
"I have twenty dollars!" He said.
"Perfect! I think you are ready for your lemonade stand Nathan."

Nathan was so excited when he opened his lemonade stand!
"I can't wait until someone buys some of my lemonade!"
Nathan began to get bored as he sat and waited for someone to come.
"I know! I will pretend I am somewhere else while I wait! Then I will
not be so bored!"
That is just what Nathan did. He closed his eyes and...he was in
space!

As Nathan imagined he was floating in outer space, a customer
approached his lemonade stand...

Nathan's first customer was an alien! The
alien introduced himself as Jim the Alien.
Nathan replied, "Hello, Jim the Alien!
Would you like some lemonade?"
"Yes, please. What is the price?"
"One dollar."
Jim the Alien exchanged a one dollar bill
for a cool glass of lemonade.

"Thank you, Jim the Alien!" called Nathan.
"Thank you for the lemonade!" replied Jim.
Nathan was proud of his first lemonade sale.
He was one dollar closer to getting his new toy
car!

Nathan's mind returned to his lemonade
stand. He placed his new one dollar bill
with the money his parents gave him. He
had 20 dollars. Now he had 21!

As Nathan waited, he soon began
daydreaming again. This time, he
was in Ancient Egypt when a
customer came up to his lemonade
stand...

The customer introduced herself: "Hello, I am Hatshepsut,
Pharaoh of Egypt." Nathan was honored to be speaking to one of
the rulers of Ancient Egypt! Nathan replied, "Hello! Would you like
some lemonade? They cost one dollar."
"Yes, of course! Here are four quarters."
Hatshepsut gave Nathan one dollar in quarters for a sweet glass of
lemonade.

"Enjoy the lemonade, Hatshepsut!" called Nathan.
"Thank you! I will see you again."
With that, the pharaoh returned home. Nathan was happy
that he made another sale and that he met a very
important person.
