Once upon a time, in a village reminiscent of Earthly havens, where rolling hills and lush meadows cradled a community brimming with life, a tale of extraordinary proportions unfolded

Set in the era of all those long ago, this tale depicted courage, determination, and an epic struggle against a cunning enemy—the variola witch. This evil witch used black magic to create a smallpox curse, which she then ruthlessly cast upon the gullible peasants.

Act 1: The enchanted village

The fabric of human existence was being woven in the beautiful surroundings of the village, where the sound of laughing floated down cobblestone streets and the smell of home-cooked meals drifted from warm cottages.

 The villagers' everyday routines were filled with the vibrant dance of life, friendships blossoming and disagreements erupting. Even with the unavoidable ups and downs, the community continued to be a shining example of beauty and life

Act 2: The Curse Unleashed

However, the variola witch's curse cast a shadow over this serenity. Over millennia, the villagers endured the painful onslaught of smallpox curse.

A horrific symphony of symptoms included high fevers, crippling exhaustion, aching backs, severe headaches, and constant vomiting. A few days later, the hands, arms, and faces were covered with crimson blisters that gradually extended to the body's trunk.

Fluid-filled blisters surfaced, then turned into pustules that eventually scabbed and left behind deeply pitted scars. With its stunning 30% fatality rate, smallpox caused immense suffering and left an indelible scar for the village.

Act 3: Unity Amidst Adversity

Nevertheless, challenges served as a catalyst for harmony. The variola witch represented a common enemy, so the villagers put aside their differences and looked for ways to break the curse.

 Inspired by past experiments conducted by doctors and scientists, villagers explored unconventional techniques.

Chinese villagers invented a technique in which healthy people's noses were blown with powdered smallpox scabs that had been dried and ground. This approach showed remarkable success, with a notably reduced death rate of 0.5–2.0%.

In their darkest hour, an unexpected heavenly ally, the cow god, intervened as the villagers experimented and learned, sending an English doctor named Edward Jenner divine instructions as he descended from the sky.
