Good morning class, today we have a new student and his name is Joshua. He is excited to learn and meet you guys. Joshua has joined in at the right time because we are learning about Christmas around the world and Joshua loves Christmas time.

Today you will work on creating a poster about how you celebrate Christmas in your house. I want you to discuss your traditions, culture, the foods you may eat, and once everyone is finished we will go over them as class and learn a little more about each other.

Joshua thinks of ways to tell his friends about his Hispanic culture. He wants to talk about his amazing foods his abulea makes him, the Christmas tradition of tree shopping with his papa and the cookie baking with his madre.

Joshua's Christmas Traditions

Joshua includes all of his favorite things on the board and is feeling excited to show his new friends his culture and how they celebrate Christmas at home.

Joshua made his posterboard and included that he makes gingerbread cookies, his family makes menudo for dinner on Christmas Eve night, they pick out a tree and decorate it on December 1st as a family. 

After looking at their artwork and admiring and learning different things about their friends little Edmund asked Joshua "What is menudo and why do you eat it on Christmas Eve?"

Joshua was really excited to answer this question and responded to Edmund with "My mother grew up eating Menudo with my abuela. Menudo is a soup made from pig and it is my favorite soup to eat! Different people eat things on Christmas Eve but this is my favorite because my abuela makes it very yummy." 

At the end of his presentation Joshua says to his friends "We are all different in some way and we all celebrate different traditions on Christmas but I am glad to have shown yall what I do and what my family does." They all jumped with excitement and were happy and lucky to call Joshua their new friend!
