This story is dedicated to any young sailors who have a dream to sail the Great Lakes Sea-Way Trail to New York City.

Sally, a young sailor, has a dream to sail through the Great Lakes of North America out to the Atlantic Ocean. To do so, she will encounter many obstacles during her journey, but she will meet many helpful people along the way. Follow along with Sally as she sets sail in Port of Duluth Lake Superior.

"Hi! I'm Sally, join me on my sailing adventure."
Sally begins preparing for her travels in Port of Duluth, one of the largest shipping ports in the United States. The port is located on the Saint Louis Bay and River bordering Minnesota and Wisconsin.
She arranges her food supply, clothes for all types of weather, and plenty of safety gear. Sally also packs bottles of water as it will be very warm.

Once Sally has her sailboat all packed, she is ready to leave the dock. Her friend George will be helping her depart from the dock. He unties the stern line, the line on the back of the boat, and then the bow, the line on the front. Sally raises the sails and begins to sail through the bay into the mouth of Lake Superior, waving goodbye to George as it will be a while before they meet again.

"Hi! I'm George."

As Sally sails her way through The Great Lakes, she sees many seagulls and geese. Luckily for Sally, the weather is very much in her favor as well, with sunny skies and a nice breeze to keep her boat moving. She passes by many freighters who are also traveling on The Great Lakes Sea Way, transporting goods from one port to another.
Once Sally has made it through Lake Superior, she arrives at the St. Mary's River, where she will have to take the St. Marys canal, through the locks to get to Lake Huron. After making it into Lake Huron, she can head south, where she can enter Lake Michigan.
Sally will then head south to Chicago, where she will meet Theodore a local musician.

"Hi! I'm Sally."
"Hi! I'm Theodore."
After Sally docks her sailboat in Chicago, she heads out for the day to explore the city. She is walking through a nearby park when she sees a crowd of people. She walks over to see what everyone is listening to and looking at discovers a musician playing songs on his guitar. She stops and listens until he finishes his set. Once the crowd begins to disperse, Sally introduces herself to the musician.
Once Sally and Theodore have become friends, Theodore offers to show Sally around the city. After Sally has explored the city, it is time for Sally to set sail again.
Theodore walks Sally back to the dock where her boat is tied up and helps her depart from Chicago. They wave goodbye, and Sally sails back North, where she will exit Lake Michigan and enter Lake Huron again. She will then sail South down Lake Huron until she reaches the St. Clair River.

"Bye Sally, safe travels!"
Sally reaches the St. Clair River which connects her to Lake St. Clair, which will then connect into the Detroit River. When Sally arrives in Detroit, she docks at the local marina and explores the city.
However, once she returns to her boat to set sail after a day of exploring the city, she returns to her boat to discover one of her sails is missing. Sally knows she will not be able to continue her journey with a missing sail and will need to find a replacement, and QUICK!

"What am I going to do without a sail?"

Sally leaves her boat again at the dock and heads to the nearest marina and boat supply shop. She arrives at the shop and explains to the sailmaker her issue.
"When I returned to my sailboat this afternoon, it appeared someone had stolen my sail," explains Sally.
The sailmaker, Joe, asks Sally for the measurement of her sail and informs her that he will have a replacement by this evening.
Since Sally has a few extra hours in the city she decides to go out to lunch at a local restaurant. She enters the restaurant and is greeted by a friendly waiter.
The waiter takes Sally's order, "Hi, what can I get you today?"
Sally responds with her order, "A sweet tea and a hamburger would be fantastic."
The waiter writes down Sally's order and lets her know it will be out shortly.
"Thank you!" Sally says to the waiter before he heads back to get her order.
