Once upon a time, there was a girl named Naomi. She had the most beautiful long hair in her family. Every day in the living room her mom would brush it out for her and they would talk about their day together. This was Naomi's Favorite part of the whole day.

"Are you excited for your first day of school Naomi!?" asked mom
"Kind of" Says Naomi in hesitation
"Why just "kind of"? you're going to middle school! That's something to be very excited about" says mom

How do I tell her that I'm scared?
Naomi didn't want her mother to be worried about her...
But Naomi was worried...
Tomorrow would be the very first day of school in America for Naomi...
and that was scary for her

Naomi was from Kenya a country in east Africa on the coast of the Indian ocean
She loved her home and the community that was there
She had her mother, father, grandmother, and tiby her dog aka her best friend

"You will love it there, you'll make amazing new friends and see so many new things!"

but one day that would all change for Naomi
Her parents called her into the room so they could tell her about their big move to AMERICA
Her dad's job was relocating him and they had to go... including tiby

Soon enough the day came,
Her big move to America
as a family, they flew Across the North Atlantic Ocean waiting for their new lives in Minnesota
But Naomi was scared...

What if I'm too different
What will they think about me?
what if no one likes me?
what if i don't make any friends?
She was nervous about this move
She started thinking about her going to school and how different it would be
So many questions went through her head...
she didn't know what to expect
Would they like her?

The big day was finally here
her first day of middle school in America
So her parents, grandmother, and of course tiby watched her off as she got onto the bus with the neighborhood kids
She was as nervous as ever!

She got into her classroom and noticed that she didn't look anything like her classmates
Everything was so different. They didn't talk like her or look like her. She felt like the odd one out, but she sat down and the teacher started the first day of classes
"Hey guys, welcome to the first day of sixth grade! Please take a seat"

"We are going to first introduce ourselves to each other!
Say your name and write down your favorite food & tell your partner"
So Naomi wrote down chapati which is a Kenyan dish her grandmother makes often
she was hesitant to write it down because she did not know if people would know what it was
she didn't want to seem different. But she decided to keep it
