Inside of her cottage
deep in Cackly Wood
a Witch practised her magic
and was getting very good.
With the book in her hand
she gave the book a tap
and the fly in the room
became a black bat.
She kept a big hat on a peg by the door...
...But her pongy old socks
she just left on the floor.
The Witch tried to magic
a sock cleaning spell.
But it just made things worse
especially the smell.
The big lazy cat
woke up from its sleep.
its tail curled out once
then back round its feet.
A sound from outside
had caused it to wake,
did its ears hear a mouse
or was it a snake?
It could be a frog
or even a bird,
the cat listened again,
not a sound could be heard.
The Witch gave a cackle
and into the pot,
she threw two little onions
and a red toadstool with spots.
It bubbled and boiled
and she squealed with delight
adding biscuits and chocolate
as dark as the night.
Casting a spell
at the boots on the floor,
they were soon on her feet
as she stood by the door.
Her hair was a mess
so she gave it a brush,
It was getting quite late
so she'd now have to rush.
With the hat on her head
she opened the door,
stepping into the night
where the chilly wind roared.
Her list wasn’t long
and she knew where to go,
as she travelled along
through the wind and the snow.
Stopping to listen
and sniffing the air.
What was that she heard?
Was there somebody there?
Was it some kind of bird?
A snake? or a frog?
She didn't like weasels
and was afraid of big dogs.
Deep in the snow she saw what she needed,
with a wave of her wand she quickly succeeded
in catching the thing and just like that
... it was out of the woods and into her hat.
Setting of once again she now made her way,
to a creepy old place where other things played.
The wind gave a howl so she whistled a tune,
to cheer herself up as she looked at the moon.
With her body quite still
her eyes looked around,
her ears were now hearing
a strange sort of sound.
Something creeping or sneaking
she was quite sure of that
as the wind once again tried to steal her big hat.
Plip plop plip plop
then a splash and a splish
and two more little things
were now ticked off her list.
Just one more thing
then she could go home,
but this one was special
and wasn’t alone.
Her hat, shoes and cloak
were all covered with snow
as she tried to decide
the best way to go?
Keeping close to the trees
passed the old creepy mill
down a dip for a moment
then back up a big hill.
