My Forward:
In my children's book, I will be using symbols such as welcoming environments to represent the shelters provided during the London Blitz and the Bombing of Hamburg. The moral lesson I am hoping for children to learn is to practice resilience, compassion, and unity in the face of chaos and destruction. I selected the historical event, “the London Blitz and Bombing of Hamburg”. It is important to me that people, and children in particular, learn to remain courageous in the face of danger and to work towards a more compassionate world for future generations. I believe it is important to understand history, learn from our mistakes, and grow from them as well. We can prepare children for more difficult historical topics by teaching them important lessons in a positive, educational, and child-friendly manner.

Once upon a time, in the bustling city of Willowbrook, there lived a young girl named Emily and her family, who like many others, faced a great challenge.

Emily never knew danger until one night when the city of Willowbrook grew dark. All of the electricity went out when a big explosion hit. Airplanes flew overhead and the sky filled with bursts of light.

Families all across the city were told to flee their homes and run toward safety. They huddled together in underground shelters. Emily stood strong and practiced bravery.

As airplanes flew above, the city people listened to the sounds of the sky, loud and booming. The sky lit up with light.

The next morning, Emily woke up to find her city broken into pieces. She knew she had to do something to help, so she and her friends and family helped to fix and clean up the mess.

The beautiful trees that used to line the city pathways were sadly brought down by the explosions. Emily had a wonderful idea that would bring hope to her city.

Emily decided to plant new trees to replace the ones that were cut down and bring new beauty to the city. These new trees growing all over town were a sign of hope for the future.
