Chapter 1
Flamepaw stretched out his back before biting into the rabbit that lay at his paws. "Nice hunt," he said to Cinderfrost, but he didn't look up at her. "Thanks," Cinderfrost mewed. "You need to-" Flaketooth interrupted. "Cinderfrost, hunting patrol. You know that." Cinderfrost rolled her green eyes, than raised up and padded into the warrior den. "Mintfur, Honeygaze, Reedwhisker, you're with me." She meowed. The three cats sighed and got up, than they all padded out of the camp. Flamepaw didn't hear Crossedpelt until he started talking. "Flamepaw! Could I share that rabbit with you? I'm starving." Flamepaw jumped, looking behind him. "Oh... yeah. Okay," he mewed. "Thanks!" Crossedpelt happly dug
into the rabbit. "Did you hunt it yourself?" He asked. "No... Cinderfrost did," Flamepaw mewed. "Mm-Hmm!" Crossedpelt wasn't really listening. Ugh. Won't Crossedpelt find his own prey? I don't really like talking to him. Especially because he didn't want to become my mentor when Moonstar made him. That's why I don't have him as my mentor... "So... I heard that your- umm... never mind," Crossedpelt mewed. "Good," Flamepaw grumbled. "Why the sad face?" He asked. "No reason..." Flamepaw hissed, his voice heavier. "Cinderfrost!" He threw his head back to see the patrol coming back with loads of prey. "Great hunting!" "There are lots of prey in the forest," Cinderfrost mewed. "Can we work on becoming a warrior?" Flamepaw asked. "... I'll ask Moonstar," Cinderfrost meowed. She leaped onto the high rock, where Moonstar was. She chatted, then she leaped off. "Yeah. Lets go." They walked out of
the camp. "Show me how you crouch," Cinderfrost instructed. Flamepaw bent down low, his paws lay gentle on the ground. "Good. Show me the proper way to pounce." Cinderfrost climbed on a low, smooth rock near a small stream nearby. Flamepaw did as she said. "Now, go hunt prey. You are very good at fighting- so you must learn to hunt properly. Flamepaw went out to the forest, passing a vole and a mouse nearby. I need to catch something Cinderfrost will be impressed by. "There!" he crouched into position toward a nice plump squirrel. If I can catch this, Cinderfrost will surely be impressed! He remembered a time Longpaw and he did a trick Cinderfrost had never seen before. He lunged at a tree behind the squirrel, but he misjudged his leap. He hit the branch with his back, and trying to correct his position, he lunged at the squirrel, but again, he landed hard, and the squirrel ran up the tree
halfway, stopping on a branch to chatter insults to Flamepaw before running up the rest of the tree and vanishing in the leaves. "Fox dung!" Flamepaw hissed. Cinderfrost walked over to him and told him that he had failed the test, but at that point Flamepaw was too upset at himself he padded back to camp alone, knowing that he will have to re-take the test for any chance to become a ShadowClan warrior.
Chapter 2
"Hey, I'm sure you'll pass next time," Lizardheart, Flamepaw's sister mewed gently. "How do you know?" Flamepaw murmured. "Well," Lizardheart began. "W-well, you can't fail twice. I know that. You're such a good brother, and..." Lizardheart let her voice trail off. She didn't even notice Flamepaw slipping away to do some hunting with Cinderfrost. "You can pass this time," she encouraged. "How does everyone know that?" Flamepaw meowed. "Because you're skillful. And very good at hunting. Don't worry." Cinderfrost showed a mouse near a stream and some blackbirds nibbling at some seeds near it. "That will get you to pass," she meowed. Flamepaw crouched down and made his way toward the prey.
"I can do it this time," he whispered. He pounced toward the mouse, then immediately pounced on the blackbirds. "Yes!!!" Dropping the mouse with the other few pieces of prey, he meowed, "Thank you StarClan, for this prey." "Great job. You passed the warrior test. Have more faith in StarClan." Cinderfrost padded toward him and picked up the mouse as Flamepaw picked up the two blackbirds. "Moonstar will make you a warrior tomorrow," She added. "Lizardheart will be so impressed!!" Flamepaw meowed, jumping on a rock in front of Cinderfrost and disappearing in the camp. "He must be excited," Cinderfrost mewed. She walked into the camp and dropped the mouse into the fresh-kill pile. Then she went to the warriors' den and laid down. She deserved a ten minute break. "Ciiiiiiinderfroooooost!!!!" Flamepaw called. "Mm-hmm?" Cinderfrost grumbled. "Cinderfrost. Clan meeting," Flamepaw mewed, walking away.
"So I passed!" Flamepaw meowed to Lizardheart. "I knew you would. Good job," Lizardheart mewed. "Clan Meeting!" Moonstar called the cats. Flamepaw and Lizardheart raced to the high rock. All the other cats sat down, and Moonstar started. "I, Moonstar, call my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained his life to understand our noble code, and he has proven a worthy fighter and hunter. Flamepaw, do you promise to protect your clanmates, at even the cost of your life?" Moonstar asked. "... Y-yes, I do," Flamepaw answered. "Then, in the name of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Flamepaw, from this moment on, you will be known as Flametail. StarClan honors your courage and loyalty, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan!" Moonstar's words rang in Flametail ears. "Flametail! Flametail! Flametail!" The clan called him. I will do my best to protect this Clan.
"That is such a nice name! Congratulations!" Sparkpelt Meowed. "Th-thank you. It is," Flametail murmured. "Come on, new warrior. Time for sleep! Tomorrow's a big day. We're going into a battle!" Lizardheart mewed. "B-battle? I've never been in one of those before..." Flametail meowed. "Don't worry. I'll protect you. But you need sleep," Lizardheart encouraged. "Okay..." Flametail and Lizardheart padded into the warriors' den and laid down. I've never gone to battle before...
Chapter 3
"Today's the day!" Lizardheart meowed to Flametail. "Oh... right..." Flametail tried to smile, but he couldn't. "What?" The silver she-cat asked. "I've just never been into battle before, and..." Flametail let his voice trail off. "...And I've never been in a battle between a cat and me who WANTS to hurt me, and-" "All right. I get it. But I'll protect you. Okay?" Lizardheart interrupted. "Sigh... all right," Flametail meowed. "Good. But we have to go NOW," Lizardheart mewed gently. "All right, are the other warriors going too?" "Yeah. They are," Lizardtail answered. "CATS OF SHADOWCLAN!" Moonstar called. All the ShadowClan cats gathered below the high rock. "We are going now to fight back on WindClan. And I
am bringing our newest warrior- Flametail. All the other warriors are coming too. We will head out now," Moonstar meowed loudly. "Come on," Lizardheart mewed. She and the other warriors headed out of camp with Moonstar. "Hurry!" She called again. Flametail raced to catch up. "You'll have to fight hard, okay?" The silver she-cat meowed. "O-okay," Flametail mewed. "Does WindClan know we are doing this?" "No. We are sneaking to their camp, and we need to do it. They will have to pay for what they did with Bluestar. They killed our best leader in one blow," She answered. "Oh..." the amber tom sighed. "You'll have to be very quiet here, Flametail," Lizardheart whispered. "O-okay... why?" "Because we are close to WindClan camp. We don't want them to know we're here," Lizardheart answered. "Okay, I see the camp. Ready... and... NOW!!!" Lizardheart and the other warriors raced to the WindClan camp.
