A computer network is a system that connects two or more computing devices for transmitting and sharing information. Computing devices include everything from a mobile phone to a server. These devices are connected using physical wires such as fiber optics, but they can also be wireless.

Network media is the actual path over which an electrical signal travels as it moves from one component to another. This chapter describes the common types of network media, including twisted-pair cable, coaxial cable, fiber-optic cable, and wireless.

A network topology is the physical and logical arrangement of nodes and connections in a network. Nodes usually include devices such as switches, routers and software with switch and router features. Network topologies are often represented as a graph.
1. Point to point topology
2. Bus topology
3. Ring topology
4. Star topology
5. Tree topology
6. Mesh topology
7. Hybrid topology
8. Daisy chain topology

Computer Network type/categories
PAN = Personal Area Network that is used in personel level
LAN = Local Area Network a group of devices that are located in the same building
WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network that use wireless communication instead of wired
CAN = Campus Area Network network that join 2 or more LAN together
MAN = Metropolitan Area Network it is used in city for building
SAN = Storage Area Network a special high speed network to store large data
WAN = Wide Area Network that is used large geographical area

Twister Pair Cable
- They are cheaper
- They are flexible
- They are light in weight and easy to install
Coaxial Cable
- Can transfer data faster then twisted cable
- They are less prone to noise
- They can control multiple frequencies
Fiber Optic Cable
- Fiber Optic cable minimize the risk of sparking
- Provide high bandwidth in long distance
Computer Network Transmission Media

Wireless Fidelity is what WiFi stands for. WiFi provides wireless high-speed internet and network connectivity using radio waves. In order to construct hotspots, a wireless adapter is used to establish a WiFi connection. The size of WiFi antennas is such that they may be mounted on extremely tiny routers. Numerous devices, including printers, PCs, game consoles, and many more, may be connected over WiFi. The most popular LAN technology is Ethernet. Ethernet's widespread use is due to its simplicity in understanding, installation, and maintenance, as well as its ability to enable low-cost network deployment. Bus topology is typically used with Ethernet.

A network host is a computer or other device connected to a computer network. A host may work as a server offering information resources, services, and applications to users or other hosts on the network. Hosts are assigned at least one network address.
