This is Oakley the cat. Oakley was
once a stray, but now is adopted.
Today, Oakley moved to a new
house with a new family, the
Dokely's. Now Oakley has a mom, a
dad, and a little sister.

Today is Oakley's first day of
school. Oakley is very excited to
meet the teacher and make new
friends.

Oakley's parents said their goodbyes.
The teacher Mr.Jazz, introduced Oakley to the
class.
Many of the students gave Oakley funny looks.
They made fun of Oakley for looking different
than the rest of the family.
"You don't look like your parents at all," said the
twins, Stan and Dan, "You're weird!"
Oakley felt out of place.

your parents at all,
you're weird!

Just before recess, one of Oakley's classmates
Charlie, came over to talk.
"Don't worry about those guys, they make fun of
me too." said the cat.
"Why would they make fun of you?" Oakley
asked.
"Because I'm a girl, and they think girls shouldn't
dress like this." she answered.
"Well, I don't see anything wrong with the way
you dress, I really like your hat!" Oakley said with
a smile.

"Thanks! I know most girls don't dress like this,
but it is what I like to wear. And I think I'm still a
pretty cool cat!" said Charlie.
"You sure seem cool to me," said Oakley. "But I
do look different than my parents, maybe
I am weird."
"No way! Everyone has something different about
them, but that doesn't mean they are weird.
Come with me, I'll show you!" shouted Charlie as
she ran outside for recess.

Charlie pointed to a pink cat sitting near the
playground.
"I've never seen a pink cat before." said Oakley.
"That's Maya, she's super nice. But she's different
because most cats don't have pink fur." Charlie
explained.
"Really, it doesn't matter what colour her fur is,
because she is still a cool cat!"

Next, Charlie took Oakley to the sand box.
"Over there on the slide, that's Dante. He
sometimes has to go to another classroom for
extra help. He's different, but he's still a cool cat!"
said Charlie.
"Oh, and that's Saige, on the wheel."
"What's different about her?" asked Oakley.
"Well, Saige is blind, so she can't see anything.
But she is awfully fun to talk to! She may not be
able to see, but she's still a cool cat!
