Once upon a time there was a poor little girl. She had no mother and no father. She had no house to live in and no bed to sleep in. She only had the clothes she was wearing and a piece of bread, and the girl was pious (fromm) and good.

The girl was walking through the town. She met a poor old man. He asked her if she had anything to eat. She gave him the piece of bread. The man was very grateful.

The girl walked on and saw two small children. The first child asked the girl if she could give him the hat because his head was cold. The girl gave the child the hat.
The second child asked the girl if she could give her the skirt, because she has nothing to wear. The girl gave the child the skirt. The two children were very happy.

The girl was already outside the town in a forest. It was getting dark.

Suddenly the stars fell from the sky. They were golden thalers. The girl saw that she was wearing new clothes. She collected the thalers and from now on, she was rich. She never had to go hungry again.
