Once upon a time, a person named Michael decided to go crab hunting. He was on a beach with a river leading away from society. He heard from someone that many blue crabs were in the river, so he ventured off into the wilderness. When he had gone far into the river, he used his net and caught a small blue crab. After that, 19 blue crabs blocked off the river and chased him out. He had dropped the blue crab and ran for his life.
Prologue
Chapter 1
The Meetup
Once Michael ran out of the river, he was greeted by his brother, Cameron, and his best friend, Eddie. He had told them about his discovery, and they immediately took off with survival items: Michael and Cameron with nets, Eddie with his bare hands. They came across a dry spot that they called their home base, then they devised a plan to investigate further.
The plan the three came up with was simple: Michael would bonk the crabs with the pole of his net, then catch the crabs. Cameron would then take the crabs back to the place the group initially met up to put them safely in a bucket.
Chapter 2
The Capture
The plan worked flawlessly. Crabs were flying into the net left and right. Michael swiftly retrieved three crabs and Cameron brought them back to shore immediately. A large group of people were attracted. The catching slowed down after that. More and more people arrived, scaring away the crabs, and the crab catch was soon coming to a stop.
Another group stated that there were 17 crabs scampering away, meaning that there were 20 crabs total. Michael told everyone and every group in the area about how the crabs were coordinating a plan to fight back against the catchers, as he had previously experienced. Eddie, Michael, and Cameron explored further, while others stayed behind in fear of experiencing what Michael had experienced.
Chapter 3
Eddie, Michael, and Cameron were alone in an area far away from the rest of the crab catching groups. They were in the territory of the crab gang, and evidence showed. There were holes everywhere, the river had many places to hide inside and out for the crabs, and there were no people in sight.
The Wasteland
They noticed the holes and theorized about what could have happened. Their conclusion was that they were bullet holes from a war that happened against the crabs, eliminating all red ones as they would stand out more. This would only leave blue crabs to repopulate the area. These blue crabs formed a gang and attacked any crab catchers that dared to come into their home.
Once the team had concluded what had happened with the crab gang, they hung out on an island in the middle of the river. This island would be a resting place for now. There were no crabs in sight, so the three decided to relax and take in the scenery. Once rested, they decided to get back to work. They checked rocks upon rocks, but there was no luck with finding the elusive blue crab.
Chapter 4
The Purple Crab
Cameron then found something. It was purple. It was alive. It was a crab. This shocked the three and they had discussed why the crab was purple for a while. There was no conclusion, as they were interrupted before they could even make a move.
Crabs. Crabs. CRABS. The crab gang had come for them and were running straight at them. The three were running through the river, it slowing them down tremendously as the gang gains on them. The end was in sight. The three only needed to run straight, though it was a long way away and the path was not what it seemed.
Chapter 5
The Chase
The three realized that they had to get past rocks, shells, and other members of the crab gang to get to safety. They ran as fast as they could. The crabs ran faster.
After a long and tiring chase, the group successfully escaped the gang and headed home for the day to clear their minds and move on with the four catches. The 16 crabs left lived in fear that the three would soon be back and even stronger than before.
The next day, Michael and Eddie were going back to that secretive place. They caught a crab, so big it was thought to be the leader of the gang, and another crab that was smaller in size. These were both blue crabs, and the two captured the crabs and transported them to their camp at the start of the beach, while discussing what they had seen last time.
Chapter 6
Reunion
Once they were back into the wasteland, they quickly realized it split off into different paths. They decided to stay together so there would be less of a chance that the blue crabs would attack and ruin their plans.
Chapter 7
Digging Deeper
They were walking through the river, until, all of a sudden, they saw red in the sand! They also saw purple in the sand too! This proved that there was actually a war between the different crabs. But why? They discussed while walking through the wasteland; falling deeper into the rabbit hole of the blue crab.
They came across another patch of ground in the river, and they decided to set up camp there. While they were taking in the scenery, Michael had found an ancient flag for the blue crabs. This immediately had Eddie and Michael start theorizing.
Their theory was that the blue crabs were trying to eliminate the other crabs because the others were more dangerous. That explains why there were only 20 left, the red on the sand, and the purple on the sand! They were trying to protect the people all along! Michael was bleeding at the time when he was chased, so the blue crabs thought he was a red crab!
After they were done theorizing, they chilled out, walking down the riverbank. They stopped moving and felt a strange sensation on their legs. They realized that they had fallen into quicksand. Michael had immediately gotten out, while Eddie fell further in. Eddie, thinking out of the box, decided to wait it out until the quicksand ended. Once another substance was hit, Eddie scurried out of the hole.
Chapter 8
Hermit Haven
Eddie and Michael, once surviving quicksand, put their toes in the river to wash off. They looked at the water, and found a surplus of hermit crabs. They decided that this would be a good stopping place for now.
They looked around and finally were at rest. They reflected on their journeys, and they admired the shells on the crabs to pass the time.
A painting of the surroundings
They had spent so much time that they forgot to release the blue crabs, so they hopped onto their boogie boards and rode into the sunset.
Chapter 9
Release
It was time to say goodbye. Michael decided to have a picture taken with the giant crab that he had caught, and plopped the crab down along with the other crabs the friends had caught. The crabs headed into the sunset, and the mystery was finally over. Or so they thought...
A painting of the crabs swimming away
A few days later, during a stormy night, Eddie decided to take a hike through the woods. He put on a sweater, scarf, and boots to get ready for this walk. He walked through the door to get to the porch, walked through another to get to the backyard, and walked through another door to get to the forest. He would not realize something vengeful was following him through the shadows...
Chapter 10
The Gang
Eddie was casually walking down the road as the nearest hiking trail was in that direction. He was looking at the scenery, admiring the wildlife around him, oblivious to the lurking danger he was soon about to walk into. He walked past a barn that was supposedly empty, but he heard noise. He was shocked, but walked by anyways without questioning it.
A picture of the barn on the trail
He kept walking down the trail, through a forest of red leaves. The trail led to the riverbank. Once he was at the riverbank, he looked down, and saw a blue crab, which was not native to the area. He started walking faster.
He didn't see the crabs again until he was done with the trail. The trail led to a cityscape; one that seemed to be abandoned. For some reason, though, the lights in the buildings were on.
Chapter 11
The Torment
A picture of the cityscape
He saw the river once again and didn't think the crabs would attack him. Surely the crabs would stay in one place as they had in the past, right? He looked down. He saw not one, but two crabs. He started running.
He got onto another trail. He climbed up, high above the river. He thought the crabs would stay down at the river bank, so this would be a valid option for him if he wanted to escape the crab gang. He suddenly came into an opening, and all he saw was a house.
Chapter 12
The Run
A picture of the house
He walked up to the house, and heard a noise. He took a step back, and the door suddenly opened. Twenty blue crabs came out, and they were coming straight for him.
Chapter 13
The Chase 2
He had to start running. He ran through the long path to the city, but he was tired from running up the mountain. The crab gang planned this. As he ran down the mountain, he saw the city down below, but the lights were off. He had no choice other than to run into the darkened cityscape.
He decided to run into an alleyway. He watched as the crab gang ran past him, checking all of the alleyways except his. When they were moving backwards to doublecheck, he saw they were behind him, so he ran for it. The crabs heard him, though, so the chase was back on.
Eddie, with his renewed energy, ran as fast as he could, past the barn, and back onto the road. He looked behind him, and saw the crabs retreating. He decided to start walking back home.
When the next day arrived Eddie decided to try again and find out why the blue crabs were so hostile to him the night before. He had not realized yet that the rain he was stepping on was acidic, but he walked down to the path he took the day prior.
