Once there was a fine girl named Alissa, who disliked basketball.  One day she said "I've never given basketball a try, how do I know if I like it or not?".  

The next day she came home from school and her mom said, "Basketball tryouts are tomorrow, would you like to try out this year?  I know you don't like basketball but it would be fun to give it a try". Alissa thought about it for a minute and said, "Why not?".

After dinner Alissa went up to her room and started thinking about tryouts.  She was really excited! She couldn't wait till tryouts.  

The next day Alissa got dressed and bolted down the stairs!  Her mom asked "Why are you in such a hurry?".  Alissa said, "I can't wait, I really want to go to tryouts right now!".  Her mom said, "It starts in thirty minutes so you don't have to be in such a rush."

A little while later they hopped in the car and rode to tryouts.When they got to tryouts Alissa was a little nervous, but told herself that she could do it!

Alissa warmed up with the team and tried to make friends while she waited for the coach to start tryouts.  She met a girl named Lily and they became friends.

Lily said it was her first time at practice and she was nervous, but Alissa told her not to worry, "It's my first time too and we can do it together".  

The coach blew her whistle and said, "Line up!".  Alissa and Lily lined up. The coach said, "Welcome everybody, I am Coach Miller. First, we are going to warm up so we are ready for tryouts ."

After they warmed up the coach said for everyone to get in a line and shoot layups, one at a time. Alissa made the layup!  Lily did too!

Next, the coach said to shoot free throws.  Alissa and Lily shot from the free throw line and both made it!  

Finally, Coach Miller said, "We are going to play a game!  Blue verses red so I can see what you know and what we need to work on during practice."

Sadly, Alissa made the Red team and Lily made the Blue team. Alissa's team won so tryouts were over.  Alissa said, "Bye Lily" hope we make the school team!

On the way home, all Alissa could think about was being put on the team with Lily.  Alissa's mom said, "Alissa, you are so quiet back there, what are you thinking about?"

Alissa said, "I just can't wait to find out if I made the team with Lily.  I just can't wait!".   When they got home Alissa asked,  "What's for dinner Mom?" Her mom said, "Your dad said he wanted Caesar salad and steak night, so that's what I'm making."  

When her dad got home they ate dinner and went to bed.  The next morning, Alissa woke up, got ready for school and ran downstairs!  Her mom said, "Guess What Alissa?".  You made the team!!

Alissa jumped up and down with glee, she was so excited! 

When she got to school, Alissa saw the school talent show poster.  She said, "This is in a few weeks, maybe if I'm really good at basketball by then I can show my skills there".  Then she walked to class.
