                           Chapter One

Amberkit opened her eyes and stretched. Her small paws sank into the soft moss that made her nest.

Today we get to explore camp! Amberkit remembered excitedly. She licked her paw and drew it over her ear, smoothing the fur.

Her brother, Foxkit, was still snoozing in his nest.

"Foxkit, wake up!" Amberkit said, pouncing playfully onto her brother.

"Getoffmee," he grumbled, his saffron red fur spiking up as he batted Amberkit's ear.

"Today we can explore camp, remember?"

"Oh yeah! I forgot about that!" He said.

Foxkit quickly groomed himself until his short fur was smooth.

"Fernstorm, me and Foxkit are going to explore camp today." Amberkit declared.

"Okay, but stay clear of the warriors den. You might disturb Crowfrost, and believe me, he will not like that."

"Okay, Fernstorm!" Foxkit promised.      

The two kits padded out into the camp. Sunlight filtered down into the stone hollow. Cats padded in and out of the bramble-lined camp entrance. 

"It's huge! How will we make our way around!" Amberkit whined.

At that moment, two of the older apprentices padded over-Firepaw and Dawnpaw.

"We can show you around," Firepaw offered, dropping her bundle of herbs. "Let me just put these in the medicine den." 

 Firepaw trotted off and disapeared behind a young maple tree.

Dawnpaw sat down and curled her tail over her paws. "Fernstorm actually knows you're out here, right?"

"Of course she does! We always tell her when we go out of the nursery!" Foxkit exclaimed.

"Then why did I see Amberkit trying to sneak through the corpse of trees in front of the nursery yesterday?" Dawnpaw snorted.

Amberkit's ears burned with embarrassment. 

Right then, Firepaw returned from the medicine den. 

She flicked her tail toward a dense wall of brambles and sticks. “That’s the warriors’ den. Definitely best to stay clear.”

“Come on,” Dawnpaw called, gesturing with her tail. “This is the apprentices’ den—where we sleep.”

She led them toward a cozy hollow tucked under a low-hanging 

bush. Nearby, Firepaw pointed up to a small ledge carved into the rock wall.

“That’s Breezestar’s den,” she explained.

“Over there is the elders’ den,” Firepaw continued, motioning to a fallen tree trunk propped up by two boulders. “We don’t have any elders right now, though.”

As she spoke, a white and gray tabby cat stepped gracefully from the leader’s den.

“That’s Breezestar,” Firepaw said, dipping her head in respect. “Leader of CloudClan.”

Amberkit and Foxkit lowered their voices to a whisper. “Okay,” they said in unison, eyes shining with excitement.

“All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath the Highstump for a Clan meeting!” Breezestar’s voice rang out as he leapt onto the large tree stump in the center of camp.

Cats began to emerge from their dens, padding over and settling beneath the Highstump. A hush fell over the clearing as Breezestar waited for everyone to gather.

Amberkit and Foxkit nestled beside their mother, eyes wide with curiosity.   

“Yesterday,” Breezestar began, his voice strong and steady, “two apprentices passed their warrior assessments.”

He looked down at the crowd. “Leafpaw, Blazepaw—step forward.”

The two young cats padded to the center of the clearing, heads held high. Breezestar continued, “I, Breezestar, leader of 

CloudClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as warriors in their turn.”       "Falconstorm, is Leafpaw ready to become a warrior?"

"He is."Said Falconstorm.

"Then by the power of Starclan, I give you your warrior name. Leafpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and protect your clan, even at the cost of you life?"
"I do." he declared, his eyes shining with excitment. 

"Leafpaw, from this moment, you will be known as Leafstorm. Starclan honors your swiftness and 

bravery."

"Eagleheart, is Blazepaw ready to become a warrior?"

"He is."

"Then by the powers of Starclan, I give you your warrior name. Blazepaw, do you promise to up hold the warrior code and defend you clan even at the cost of your life?"                            

    "I do." he declared.

"Blazepaw, from this moment on wards, you will be known as Blazewing. Starclan honors you for your courage."

"Blazewing! Leafstorm! Blazewing! Leafstorm!" The clan cheered.

"Clan dismissed." 

With that, Breezestar turned and vanished into his den.

                        Chapter 2

Amberkit purred in the late newleaf sunshine. 

She couldn't wait to be an apprentice! It had been four moons since Firepaw had become Fireflower. Her mentor, Featherpool, had given it to her on a half moon meeting at the star pool, soon after her litter mates. The clan had been given a new deputy, after Acorntail had ran away to be a kittypet. Amberkit would miss her.

"Amberkit, come play moss ball with us!" Foxkit called. 

"Okay!" 

She, Foxkit, Scorchkit, and Birdkit played moss ball. Foxkit tossed it to Singekit, Singekit passed it to Birdkit, and Birdkit threw it to Amberkit, and she would bat it back to Foxkit until he threw it high into the air. Then, Singekit, Amberkit, Birdkit, 

and Scorchkit would try to catch it. Whoever caught it would throw it next. Amberkit absently batted it to Foxkit, thinking about everything she'd do when she was an apprentice. Suddenly, Foxkit threw it into the air. Amberkit darted to the moss ball, accidentally bumping into Birdkit while doing so, who bumped into Singekit, leaving the moss ball next to Scorchkit's paws while they were on the ground.

"I've got it!" He proclaimed, snatching it from the ground.

"Nu-uh." Birdkit stated, getting to her paws. "You've got to catch it. Not pick it up from the ground,"

"Well it's not like any of you got it."

"Redo," Birdkit declared.
