My Daddy died during 

D-Day on June 6 1944. 

The Canadian Armed 

Forces decided on 5 

beaches to storm, 

Omaha, Utah, Gold, 

Sword, And Juno My 

father was apart of 

the 3rd Canadian 

Infantry Division; 

the main force of the 

Juno Beach attacks

The Canadian's 

original plan was to 

land at low tide 

showing all of the 

German's underwater 

weapons. But, by the 

time they reached 

shore, the tide had 

already started to go 

up making it harder to 

move forward. 

My Dad's infantry had to 

swim to shore. They were 

not shot at by the 

Germans because they had 

set-up their guns to fire 

at the land. not in the 

water. When my Dad's 

infantry reached the 

beaches of Juno, they 

were hit by a lot of gun 

power. The first part of 

my Dad's infantry was 

killed. Only half of them 

were able to survive. 

Once the   soldiers had 

reached the Germans just 

behind the beach, they   

moved fast. This was one 

of Canada's first 

successful attack.

Many brave 

soldiers died 

that day 

including my 

Dad. Of the 

21,400 

soldiers 

1,200 of them 

died. That's 

9% of all 

soilders that 

were fighting
