- Breanna Tramonte

My name is Breanna Tramonte. I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome when I was 8 years old. I never told my friends until I was in fifth grade. My family and friends were so supportive with all I did. I do have an older brother, his name is Nathan. My parents were and still are my biggest supporters in life and all that I do. I don't think I would be the person I am today, if I wasn't diagnosed with Tourette's. This story is based on my life as a child. I wrote this story for fifth grade students, because that's when I was comfortable to tell my friends about having Tourette Syndrome. The older I got, the more I realized, life is an adventure, so make the best out of having a disability. The older I got, the more I realized, life is an adventure, so make the best out of having a disability. No child should be afraid to tell someone they are "different" than them. I was asked a lot as a kid, why I would "twitch", or make "weird faces". Kids would just want an answer, so I gave it to them. Yes, I do live on a farm with cows and chickens, as well as a dog. If you take away anything from this book it's to be kind, as you don't know what others are going through!
The Adventure of
Having Tourette's

One sunny day, Bre was outside with her parents, brother, two friends and her puppy, Diesel. She had asked her mom if her and her friends could go on an adventure around their farm.

"Of course." Said Bre's mom. "Just be sure you stay together and be aware of your surroundings". "Thanks mom, we will", replied Bre.

Off they went, on their adventure. But there was one little detail missing. Bre had never told anyone she has Tourette Syndrome. So, she was nervous. Then all of a sudden she had a tic.
Chloe pulled Bre to the side. "Hey Bre, why did you move your face like that?" she asked. "Well, that's just how I am. It's a way I express myself. It's called a tic", Bre replied. Then, they continued on their adventure.

While looking at the cows and chickens, Bre had been ticing a lot. But she wasn't bothered by it. She was hoping that her friends wouldn't notice either.

Then, Sydney pulled her aside. "Hey, Bre, why are you shrugging your shoulders like that?" Bre giggled, "Well Sydney, my nerves like to malfunction sometimes, as where yours don't. They're called tics."
As the girls continued their adventure, Chloe and Sydney didn't bat an eye at Bre's tics. They just wanted answers as to why Bre did certain things. Bre was honest and it was easy to talk to her friends.

Bre is nervous to see the kittens, because she's allergic to to them. She's also nervous her freinds are judging her. When she's nervous, she tics more. Both girls asked at the same time, "Bre, are you okay?" "Yeah," said Bre, "I tic when I'm nervous."

"You're our best friend, there's no need to be nervous," replied Chloe. "Yeah, we want to learn about Tourette's not judge you," said Sydney. "Really? You want to learn about it?", asked Bre.

Bre's parents and puppy came to check on the girls. "Hey girls how is the adventure going?" asked Bre's mom. "Great, we're learning about Bre's tics," replied Chloe. "Yeah, sometimes her nerves malfunction," said Sydney.
