This book is dedicated to 3 year old Nadia who stuttered and had trouble speaking. That disability inspired her to write her words to express herself. I, Nadia, am now 10 years old and use story writing as a form of expression.

The population of Greensville is only 300 and it decreases daily due to the number of murders. With a population so small, there are only 6 police officers in town and no 911 call center. This makes it very easy to get away with murder. Jennifer, who goes by Jenni, does not like being home alone for this reason.
Jenni's mother is a business woman and is often out of town on business. Her two brothers, Jason and Javon are co-owners of an automotive engineering firm in a much larger nearby city. Because Jenni's mom is always away on business trips, her two brothers take turns checking in on her.
Jenni was always afraid at home alone, and every noise she heard frightened her more. She'd always double check the locked doors and windows just to be sure they were secured. Jenni was constantly asking her mother to invest in a security system, but her mother would say that it's not needed because it is unlikely that any of the 6 officers in town will respond.
One cold, morning Jenni heard the sound of glass breaking in the kitchen. It frightened her so she called her mom, Alysa, who was on a business trip, but she did not answer. Jenni began to quietly tiptoe to the kitchen to see what the sound was. As she got closer, she saw something that made her
heart drop to her stomach! There stood a masked man covered in glass with a sharp axe! Jenni screamed and ran to a secret space in her mom's bedroom closet and tried to call her mom, but like always, she did not answer. Her brother, Jason, was already en route to come check on Jenni so he pulled up in the driveway. As soon as Jason walked in the front door, the masked man stabbed him right in his chest with the axe. Jenni could hear Jason's scream and tried hard not to cry or make a sound. She didn't want to alert the masked man to were she was hiding. The only other person to call was her brother, Javon.
Jenni asked Javon to come over and warned him about the masked man with an axe and told him what he did to Jason. She told him not to enter through the front door and to enter through the window in the back bedroom. Jenni suggested that Jason bring a gun because the man had an axe. The house was quiet so Jenni didn't know where the masked man was. She quietly crawled under her mother's bed where Alysa kept her gun and took it back to the closet with her.
Javon arrived and attempted to enter through the back bedroom window. Each time he tried to open the window, it creaked due to the windows and house being so old.
