This is Bunny. He is the fastest bunny ever! Every day, Bunny hops outside to find a carrot. He runs super fast, but he feels really tired.
One day, bunny found a yummy carrot and ate it. He felt sleepy after eating but didn’t know why. Little did he know his biological clock was telling him to go to sleep.

That night, bunny went to his room. His friend Owl came in and saw that bunny looked tired. Owl said Bunny needed more REM Sleep to dream and Non- REM sleep to rest his body.

Bunny asked owl how to get enough sleep. Owl said to go to bed early. If bunny went to bed on time, he could get through all the stages of sleep and wake up feeling relaxed.

The next morning, bunny woke up early. His circadian rhythm helped him get up. When bunny hopped outside, the bright light made him feel happy.

Bunny went outside to find a carrot and saw his friend llama still sleeping. Llama looked very tired because he stayed up late watching the stars. He felt so sleepy as if he was having jet lag. Bunny knew he needed more rest.

Bunny and llama talked. Bunny told llama about his friend owl who stays awake during night and we are larks who stay up during the day.

Bunny and Llama walked home, feeling tired and ready to sleep. Bunny told Llama that if they wanted energy for tomorrow, they should avoid shift work. Their bodies need to match the light outside

That night, Bunny fell asleep, and a fairy came to visit him in his dream. She told Bunny some animals can’t sleep because of insomnia or sleep apnea. Others can have restless leg syndrome or even narcolepsy.

The fairy wanted Bunny to learn more about sleep. She said he needs a 90-minute cycle to go through NREM 1 when he closes his eyes but isn’t fully relaxed, NREM 2 when he relaxes, and NREM 3 when his body fixes itself. Good sleep improves the brain and body.
