Hi! My name is Dolly. I am five 

years old, and I live with my 

mommy, daddy, and my Mimi.

My Mimi and I are very close. 

She always watches me while 

mommy and daddy are at work.

Mimi and I like to bake, go on 

walks, watch movies, and laugh. 

Last year, Mimi started getting 

sick. Mommy said it was cancer.

Some days, Mimi would be too 

sick to watch me. Her long, silver 

hair fell out. I help Mimi pick out 

what head scarf to wear 

everyday.

Last month, Mimi told me she was 

going on vacation. She said that 

she would be sick-free after it. 

She told me she would bake 

cookies with me as soon as she 

got home.

But Mimi still isn't home. She 

must be staying on vacation 

longer, because we're packing her 

things into boxes.

Mommy and Daddy must miss her 

as much as I do. They've cried 

since they dropped me off at my 

neighbor's one night.

While we were packing, I wrapped 

myself in Mimi's favorite quilt. 

It's blue with white flowers.

Mommy picked me up and set me 

on the bed. Her eyes were red 

and puffy.

"Doll-baby, there's something you 

need to know," Mommy said. Her 

eyes looked wet.

"What is it, Mommy?" I asked.

Mommy gulped. "Mimi isn't coming 

home."
