
It was a sunny and windy afternoon in the village. Ellie and Max were playing in Max’s backyard. Ellie’s new kite got stuck in a tall tree.
“Oh no! My kite!” Ellie said, pointing to the tree.
Max looked up at the colorful kite. “Don’t worry, Ellie. We will get it down. Let’s make a plan.”



They went to ask Mr. Smith, the carpenter, for help. Mr. Smith lived nearby in a house with a big rectangular workshop and a triangular roof.


“Mr. Smith!” Max said. “Can you help us get Ellie’s kite down from the tree?”
Mr. Smith smiled. “Of course! First, let’s see how high the kite is. We need a plan.”
He took a piece of paper and a pencil.



“This tree has a tall trunk, like a rectangle,” he said, drawing it. “The branches are long and wavy.”
Ellie smiled. “And the kite is shaped like a diamond!”
“Yes,” said Mr. Smith. “Now, let’s get the right tools.”
