Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born on July 28th, 1929. She was born into a wealthy family in New York. Her and her little sister, Caroline, loved living in the big city of Manhattan. They both loved to dance, ride horses, and study.

Jacqueline, "Jackie", grew up with an impressive education. In 1951, Jackie graduated from college with a degree in French literature. She graduated from George Washington University, which is in Washington D.C.

Despite her degree in French literature and her future role as First Lady, Jackie's first true job after college was as a photographer for the Washington Times!

In 1952, Jackie met John F. Kennedy at a dinner party in Washington D.C. At the time, Kennedy was a Congressman and a soon-to-be Senator. They were married on September 12, 1953.

They had two children together named Caroline and John F. Kennedy, Jr. In 1961, Kennedy became the President of the United States. The family packed up and moved into the White House!

Even though her husband was the President of the United States, Jackie made a lasting impact during her time at the White House as well. Most notably, she was known for bringing class, style, and fashion into American politics. She created the Fine Arts Committee at the White House, as well as the White House Historical Association, which was tasked with preserving the history of the White House.
She renovated many rooms of the White House, with the goal of showcasing past Presidents and their families.
At this time in history, the White House was closed off to the public. Jackie wanted to share the home with the rest of the country, so she televised the first tour of the White House in 1962. It opened the home up to the public in a way that had never occurred before and the American people loved her for it.
Despite all of her ambitious projects, motherhood was always her first priority. She changed many things around the White House to make it more of a family home instead of an office building. She added play rooms, nurseries, school rooms, and more.
